“I don’t advise it”: Unlike Christian Bale, Oppenheimer actor is Not a Fan of Insane Physical Transformations for His Role
Christian Bale and Cillian Murphy worked together in Christopher Nolan’s 2005 film Batman Begins. Though Murphy recently revealed that the eventual casting of Christian Bale for the lead role of Batman was perfect, in retrospect, he also shared his thoughts against going through insane physical transformations to suit the role, which his co-star, Bale, had done for Batman Begins too. Losing weight for the latest film may not have been Murphy’s favorite aspect of the prep.
Oppenheimer Lead Star Not A Fan Of Insane Physical Transformation
Cillian Murphy got candid about losing weight for his latest role. He was also seen issuing warnings to fans over Oppenheimer diet. The Peaky Blinders actor reportedly ate just one almond for dinner every day to get ready for his role.
Murphy stars in the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s biopic based on the life of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. Determined to portray Oppenheimer correctly despite the unhealthy toll it would undoubtedly take on his body, he wanted to commit to the role with his mind and body.
While talking to The Guardian about his film, the actor disclosed why he doesn’t recommend extreme weight loss. His Batman co-star, Christian Bale, once explained that after doing Vice, he needed to stop messing with his weight to such extreme ends for roles. Murphy said regarding the same, “You become competitive with yourself a little bit which is not healthy. I don’t advise it.” His honesty is worth the appreciation.
Christian Bale’s History of Physical Transformations
Christian Bale is famous for undergoing extreme physical transformations on the big screen. Bale has gotten his weight dangerously close to 100 pounds and well over 200 pounds for roles. His journey of physical transformation began with American Psycho in 2000 when in order to tackle the role of the muscular serial killer Patrick Bateman, Bale went on an all-lean protein diet. One of his most significant transformations was for Brad Anderson’s psychological thriller, The Machinist.
The actor then put on 100 pounds of muscle for Batman Begins. Some of his other notable works that required him to undergo an insane amount of physical transformation were Rescue Dawn, The Dark Knight, The Fighter, The Dark Knight Rises, American Hustle, Exodus: Gods and Kings, and Vice.
