“I don’t blame him”: David Corenswet’s Bold Celebration of the Wrap on Superman Filming Shows Just How Brutal His Eating Regimen Must Have Been
- David Corenswet went through an intense physical transformation with a strict diet and workout routine for 'Superman'.
- After wrapping up filming, Corenswet celebrated by eating chocolate cake which reflected his relief and joy.
- Isabela Merced's praise for Corenswet shows Gunn's casting of Superman was not a wrong move.
Superman is flying back to the big screen, and this time, he has a new face. David Corenswet will be seen in the iconic red cape in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. It is something that comes with high expectations, especially after the previous adaptations of the character.
Becoming Superman is not just filling out the super suit and looking good in it. It is about embodying the strength and power of the last son of Krypton. Corenswet has been hitting the gym hard, transforming his physique to match the Man of Steel’s legendary status.
David Corenswet’s Celebration After Superman Wraps Up
David Corenswet‘s dietary discipline has been tough as his workout routine, and his post-filming celebration show what he has been missing.
In a conversation with GQ, Corenswet’s trainer, Paolo Mascitti shared some insights into his physical preparation for the role.
David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’4″ but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200 lbs to 240 lbs.
That is a lot of muscle to pack on, even for a superhero. Corenswet’s workout routine was no joke. Mascitti revealed (via Men’s Health) that they focused on compound movements like presses, pull-ups, and rows. The actor was hitting the gym for two-hour sessions, three to four times a week, and walking lunges were apparently Corenswet’s kryptonite in the gym.
But the real challenge was the diet. Mascitti revealed that Corenswet’s caloric intake was around 6,000 calories a day. Mascitti said,
His diet was strict, but not as strict as I would have liked. I’d ask him about his diet and he’d be eating cereal! He’d ask ‘What’s wrong with cereal!?’ But that’s why he’s the perfect Superman, he has a realistic expectation of himself and the role.
Speaking of diet, Corenswet’s wrap celebration perfectly depicted his inner feelings. The actor posted a video of himself eating a piece of chocolate cake and looking out of words. Fans online were also supportive of his sweet treat.

After following such a strict diet that must have been about low sugar, low carbs, and high protein, it is no wonder Corenswet was craving some sugar by the end of filming. James Gunn also shared a heartfelt post on social media where he thanked all his team members after wrapping up the shoot.
David Corenswet Was Perfect for James Gunn’s Superman
Why did James Gunn choose David Corenswet to be the new Superman? In an interview with Variety, the director mentioned the importance of finding an actor who could portray Superman’s humanity and alien nature at once.
It has to be somebody who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and compassion that Superman has. And it has to be somebody that you’d want to give you a hug.
Corenswet seems to be nailing it, at least according to his co-star Isabela Merced, who will be seen as Hawkgirl. In an interview with Screen Rant, Merced praised the new Man of Steel.
That man is an angel. He is very much Superman. He very much has that energy, and I admire working with him. His patience is incredible with his little tight suit on those hot days! I mean, he never complained once.
It is quite high praise indeed, but the pressure is on Corenswet as he is not just stepping into a role, he is stepping into a legacy. Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Superman in the DCEU was loved by many fans, and Corenswet has big boots to fill and a lot of expectations to meet.
Superman will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
