“I don’t care what role it is”- F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton Was Ready to be a Janitor For a Role In Top Gun: Maverick, Admits He Requested Tom Cruise
Top Gun: Maverick earned more than $662 million in ticket sales ever since its release in May this year. The movie has become the 7th highest grosser in domestic box office records, taking over Titanic, and is now aiming to take over Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. As the movie is breaking records, more and more details about the movie and behind the production are coming out. One such detail includes Lewis Hamilton, the F1 racer.
Lewis Hamilton Almost Appeared in Top Gun: Maverick
The Formula 1 racer recently talked about his life and career in an interview with Vanity Fair. He also talked about opportunities that came to him but he had to decline them. In the interview, the F1 racer revealed that he has to turn down a role in the movie, Top Gun: Maverick.
Referring to his conversation with Tom Cruise he said, “When I heard the second one is coming out, I was like, Oh my God, I have to ask him. I don’t care what role it is. I’ll even sweep something, be a cleaner in the back.”
The statement does make it clear how much Hamilton wanted to have a role, no matter what, but a role in the movie. But the filming was held during the F1 season and considering his racing career, he had to refuse a part in the movie.
Many believe that Lewis Hamilton missed a big opportunity to share the screen with Tom Cruise. He watched the 1986 film Top Gun and wanted to be a fighter pilot. Upon hearing that a sequel to the movie is coming out, he contacted Tom Cruise. The actor offered him to be one of the fighter pilots in the movie.
Lewis Hamilton Film Career
Lewis Hamilton worked in movies earlier. He had a cameo named after himself in Cars 2 and Cars 3. The racer also had a cameo in the movie Zoolander.
In his interview with Vanity Fair, Lewis Hamilton also mentioned that he will be one of the producers of a Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun: Maverick director and producer Joseph Kosinski. He does not plan to appear alongside Brad Pitt in the racing movie as he thinks it would be too much of a cliche for him to star in a racing movie.
For now, there is no news about him making an appearance in any movie in the future but his racing career is surely seeing growth. He holds the most victories in Formula 1 with 103 wins, 7 times world champion of Formula 1, and many more other records in his racing career.
