The internet has been in a fit of anger ever since Warner Bros. Discovery canceled Batgirl. The film, directed by Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, and was set to come later out this year. The two directors had recently teased the role of the multiverse in the film, and fans were eagerly waiting to see how the concept panned out in the film. But they were left disappointed with the studio’s decision. It is not just the fans who are angered by the move, filmmaker Kevin Smith is fuming about the decision too.

During his recent appearance on his YouTube show, Hollywood Babble-On, Kevin Smith talked about the cancellation of the film’s release despite the fact that the filming is finished and the film is in post-production.

“It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina ‘Batgirl’ movie.”

The filmmaker also praised the directors for their work on MCU’s latest show, Ms. Marvel.

“I don’t give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dog shit – I guarantee you that it wasn’t. The two directors who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do ‘Batgirl’ than they had to do an episode of ‘Ms. Marvel’ and stuff.”

Kevin Smith blasts rumors that the Batgirl film looks cheap

The filmmaker also disregard the rumors that the test screening of the film was bad. He stated,

“I love all the CW shows, but the CW shows show their budgetary constraints. They said ‘Batgirl’ looked too cheap because it was a $90 million movie. How do you make a cheap-looking $90 million movie? If it looked slightly better than an episode of ‘Arrow’ then why couldn’t we see that?”

Kevin Smith’s not happy with Warner Bros releasing The Flash

The filmmaker pointed out the hypocrisy of the studio in canceling the film starring a Latina superhero while continuing to go ahead with releasing The Flash, which stars Ezra Miller, who is all over the internet for his extremely problematic behavior.

“I don’t give a shit how bad the ‘Batgirl’ movie is, nobody in that movie is complicated or has anything in their real life you have to market around. In ‘The Flash’ movie, we all know there’s a big problem! Flash is the Reverse-Flash in real life.”

The filmmaker’s comments highlight how problematic the decision is. Hopefully, the studio will realize the importance of the film and choose to release it.
