The Oscars couldn’t even do what Adam Sandler did for Salma Hayek

The 90s were a wired era. Allegedly, pretty wasn’t allowed to have a sense of humor. Thus, when Salma Hayek arrived in America, her beauty over shined her other qualities to the casting director. Since then, From Dusk Till Dawn came along with various other movies that rewarded her with success but not exactly the satisfaction she was looking for. She said,

“They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humor.’”

For more than three decades, her talent for being funny was underestimated. Until finally, when Adam Sandler came along with Grown Ups in 2010. This gave Hayek the chance to showcase her comic timing and she did not disappoint. She said in the interview,

“My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies. I couldn’t land a role until I met Adam Sandler, who put me in a comedy [‘Grown Ups’], but I was in my forties!”

Hayek said in a disheartened voice that even her being nominated for the Oscars, could not do what Sandler did for her,

“When I was nominated for an Oscar, the types of roles that people offered me did not change at all,–I really struggled and I thought that was going to change, but no.”

She is now glad everything worked out in the end, and thanks Adam Sandler for that.

Salma Hayek laughs at the people who thought her career will die out

People thought Salma Hayek’s career will die with time. Beauty could only get one so far. People thought her beauty is the only thing keeping her in the business and once that’s gone, she will be out of the business as well. But she proved otherwise. She said in the interview,

“I was sad at the time, but now here I am doing every genre, in a time in my life where they told me I would have expired — that the last 20 years I would have been out of business. So I’m not sad, I’m not angry; I’m laughing. I’m laughing, girl…I’m at a place in my life where I don’t think my sexuality is the only thing that’s appreciated anymore. But if it was, I wouldn’t care, because I’ve built enough respect around me from the people that really matter that I feel seen beyond that.”
