“I don’t want to play that”: Zendaya’s Co-star Left Euphoria Because She Hated Being the “Fat Best Friend” in the Show
Since the announcement of Season 3 of Euphoria, fans have been counting down the days. The release date is yet to be announced, and according to reports, the series’ filming is not complete yet. Since there were many rumors regarding many actors quitting the show, Barbie Ferreira has confirmed that she won’t be returning for Euphoria season 3.
Ferreira, who played the character of Katherine Hernandez, has decided to say goodbye to her character and the show. In a recent interview, Ferreira talked about why it was important for her to quit the show.
Barbie Ferreira says she never wanted to be a part of Euphoria
Ferreira spoke about her side of the story and why she needed to quit the show. In an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Ferreira talked about the details of the decision that made her quit Euphoria. Ferreira also mentioned she never wanted to be a part of the series, but got sucked into the drama. The 26-year-old actress said,
“When people ask me about season 2, they come at me like I was some sort of victim to season 2 and I’m always like, ‘No, it’s okay, promise. It’s good.”
She further added,
“I kind of got sucked into this drama that I never asked to be in and that I’ve never talked about. I’m of the mindset that if it doesn’t exist I’m not going to address it because then I’m adding fuel to it.”
Many Kat fans will be surprised by Ferreira’s departure from the show, as she was regarded as one of the most relatable and strong characters on the show. Many young girls were inspired by her character.
Barbie Ferreira didn’t want to be the fat best friend
The Nope actress explained that season 2 of Euphoria was a struggle for her and the makers of the show as well. She wasn’t sure where her character was going from here. The American model also stated that her departure from the show was a mutual decision between her and the producers. Ferreira said while explaining her perspective,
“I actually did not walk off-set. I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that’s what they mean?” Further adding, “I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that.”
She continued,
“I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either. Season 2 felt like a struggle for both parties. It was a struggle to find the continuation of her. So that was actually really hurtful watching it and seeing the fans get upset.”

Ferreira expressed that she should have quit the show in the previous season, she said, “I just felt like maybe it’s like I overstayed my welcome a little bit? So, for me, it actually felt good to be like.” The model-turned-actress is also promoting body positivity. She is frequently seen discussing diversity in the modeling and acting industries.
