Morgan Freeman not interested in knowing ‘what happened next’

During an interview with Sky News last year, Morgan Freeman, who was promoting his show Great Escapes which premiered on History Channel, was asked if he ever wondered about what happened next when his character Red and Tim Robbins’ character Andy Dufresne met on the beach in Zihuatanejo, just like the fans have wondered over the years?

Freeman answered by stating that he has surely wondered what it would be like to revisit those iconic characters and see how the story moves forward after they meet on the beach; he would not like to do that.

“I think it’s best to do it in the mind. I really don’t think I’d be that interested in going back and trying to recapture that. Although Tim and I do remain very close friends still.”

Morgan Freeman on being fascinated with real-life prison breaks

The actor mentioned, in regards to talking about why his company, Revelations Entertainment, was interested in a series, Great Escapes, as he explained that he had been interested in the subject for as long as he could remember. He noted,

“Just getting into the inner workings of how a prisoner, somebody in a maximum security institution, starts thinking about, ‘how am I going to get out of here, and then pull it off?’ The ingenuity gets to you, the very daring of it. To dare to think that you could and to work at it, is just fascinating.”

Freeman continued to explain that the first thing a prisoner would think is that it’s never going to happen, they are never going to escape and they cannot do it because it is almost like digging a grave with a spoon. But suddenly, then, the most fascinating thing about these Great Escapes is the fact that they pulled it off.

He continued, “ Trouble is that getting out of prison is not getting away. It’s solving one problem. They’ll eventually get you and bring you back.” The actor, however, did clarify that with his show he is not giving pointers to people on how to escape prison, but it’s just fascinating to learn that human ingenuity exists in prison.

Morgan Freeman on skipping award ceremonies

The actor whose Twitter and Instagram bio simply says “That actor whose voice you recognize,” because of the range of characters he has played on-screen with his commanding voice, is impressive.

He shared during an interview that award ceremonies are not his thing anymore. He pointed out, “I don’t watch them anymore, and I don’t know who’s there. I haven’t seen all of the movies [nominated]. I’m kind of a recluse now, so… [there’s] not quite the same fascination that I remember having about the awards. All of them.”

However, he did appear at the 95th Academy Awards to celebrate Warner Bros.’ 100th Anniversary onstage alongside Margot Robbie whose film Babylon was nominated in three categories but, unfortunately, did not win. Freeman wore a glove on his left arm, which made the viewers curious.

His fans online that it was a compression glove that he wears for comfort reasons after paralyzing his left hand in a car accident nearly 15 years ago later pointed it out. The glove works by lightly squeezing the veins in his hands to support blood circulation and can help in managing pain, swelling, and tingling.
