After the Canadian actor revealed their separation on social media, Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling reportedly called it quits on their 18-year marriage. The couple has five children together; they were wed in 2006 and renewed their vows in 2010.
However, the actor later deleted the separation announcement from his social media accounts, leaving fans to wonder what had happened to their relationship. Although neither of the two has addressed the situation, they were recently photographed together earlier this week at the Beverly Hills Hilton for their daughter’s birthday celebrations.
Dean McDermott’s cheating scandal made his relationship with Tori Spelling ‘complicated’
In a secret ceremony in Fiji, Dean McDermott, a Canadian actor, and Tori Spelling, a former cast member of Beverly Hills, 90201, wed in 2006. McDermott had previously been married to Mary Jo Eustace, whereas Spelling had finalized her divorce from her ex-husband Charlie Shanian after two years of marriage.
When McDermott and Spelling first met on the Mind Over Murder set in 2005, they were open about cheating on their ex-spouses. Dermott later came clean about cheating on Spelling in 2014 while filming in Canada. True Tori, a Lifetime reality series in which the couple chronicled their ups and downs and which aired in 2014, followed this cheating scandal. In one of the episodes of the show, the actor said, “I feel shame, I’ve never felt shame before”.
The actor, however, held himself accountable and checked himself into a rehab facility voluntarily, but they eventually got back together and started working on their marriage. Sources indicate that the cheating scandal was a huge bump on the road for them and it just made their relationship complicated and hard.
McDermott wrote on his social media that after 18 years of marriage and five children, the two of them have decided to go their separate ways and start a new journey on their own. He further mentioned and asked people to respect their privacy as they take this time to surround their family with love and work their way through this.
Tori Spelling always feared that Dean McDermott was going to cheat on her
During an appearance on the Women on Top podcast hosted by Roxy Manning and Tammin Sursok in 2020, Spelling was asked about the infamous cheating scandal about which she said that she is proud that she was able to share how she felt at the time in front of the cameras.
Talking about the kids, she said,
“My kids have not seen clips, but they’ve seen something out there online and my daughter saw something. It really upset her.”
However, the actress acknowledged that it was not easy for her to navigate through the scandal, adding that it was difficult but she also revealed that she always feared that the actor would cheat on her.
“My biggest fear in our relationship was I was like, he’s going to cheat on me, he’s going to cheat on me, he’s going to cheat on me. So when it happened, I was like, ‘See, I always thought from day one he was going to cheat on me,’ and it wasn’t about him, that was about me. I was like, ‘Okay, I know I’m not good enough,’ that’s how I felt about myself, and one day he’s going to realize that and he’s gonna find someone else.”
Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling’s separation has been under the radar since 2021
A source at the time shared that when McDermott was seemingly missing from their holiday card in 2021, fans started to speculate about their relationship. But Spelling clarified in comments that the absence was because he was filming his new feature in Canada.
A source close to the couple shared that they were not in a good place and have been rethinking their relationship, adding that they have been through the wringer before but they have always managed to get out of it. They also said the two of them are living separate lives.
Now, a source has mentioned that they are not getting a divorce, adding that they have been doing better. Just like every other couple they’ve had their ups and downs, but they continue to work on their marriage, and through the couple’s counseling, they are assured that they will make it through. The source said that the actor took down the post because he and Spelling may have gotten into a big blowout fight and he regretted it.
Representatives of Spelling and McDermott have not responded to the news.
