“I got paid… No one could say I was sh*t in it”: Fans Will Not be Happy With How Barbie Treated Olivia Colman
The Barbie movie needs no introduction since every industry was bathed in pink hues for the better part of last year. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the movie outlined the plastic doll’s adventures in the real world with Margot Robbie taking on the titular role. Barbie was an unprecedented success with the color pink forever linked to Barbie’s smashing legacy at the box office.
Olivia Colman had a Cameo in Barbie
Among the countless actors from Hollywood who happily signed on to be a part of history in the making with a cameo in Barbie, was The Crown fame Olivia Colman. Known for her drama and comedic roles alike, Colman has been a crucial part of the industry for many years. On top of her vast list of movies and TV shows is a comparative list of awards she has won, including an Academy Award, four BAFTA Awards, two Emmy Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.
Greta Gerwig reached out to Colman for a brief scene in the movie where she tries to overthrow Helen Mirren as the narrator and attempts to narrate Barbie’s iconic story herself. As much fun as it sounds, we never got to see that scene because it was cut from the final movie. Albeit it was a scene that added humor to the role, it was not quite integral to the movie’s plot. During the premiere of her venture Wicked Little Letters in New York, Colman shared her views on the same with IndieWire,
“I never saw it. They had arranged a call between me, David Heyman, the producer, and Greta Gerwig. I thought, ‘Oh, I know what this must be [for].’ It made perfect sense because it didn’t add to the story, it was just fun. Maybe they were running over, I don’t know. But it was kind of perfect for me, because I got paid for the job, and then no one could say I was shit in it.”
Colman highlights how some people always find a way to critique actors for something or the other, and she was glad nobody could say that about her. She loved being a part of the film even if her scene did not make the cut. However, Colman’s fans must be disappointed over this news. After seeing her in Fleabag, everyone is well aware of Colman’s comedic prowess. Her appearance in Barbie would have been a welcome surprise.
Olivia Colman’s Upcoming Projects
Having her scene cut from Barbie is no big deal for the British actress since she has a lot more projects lined up already. She will next be seen in Paddington in Peru which continues the stuffed bear’s adventures across the country on a visit to Aunt Lucy. Directed by Dougal Wilson, Colman will be playing the role of the Reverand Mother in the movie.
She also expressed a desire to work with Yorgos Lanthimos as the director is still riding the high tide of Poor Things. They have collaborated on The Favourite previously.
“I mean, I would work with him again for free any time, to be honest, and I think he probably knows that. I know whenever he wins everything, and I text him and go, ‘You’re amazing!’”
Moreover, Colman will be seen in Wicker, a movie by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson where she plays the lead role of a woman who is slowly descending into madness. Her irritation with society increases to the extent that she orders a husband made out of wicker for herself. Dev Patel co-stars in this production.
