However, did you know that Cox had no clue who Daredevil or Matt Murdock was before he got cast for the role? The actor recently talked about it in a few Comic Con panel conversations, leaving his fans shocked. He also never thought that he would become a superhero as he already crossed the mark of being 30. But, here we are, with him donning the role with utmost perfection even in his 40s.

Charlie Cox has been a part of many projects, including Treason and Stardust, but what made him rise to fame was playing Daredevil. But strangely, the actor neither read about the comic character nor ever heard of him before getting the project. At the Fan EXPO San Francisco 2024, when a fan asked him whether he looked up the character and asked ‘Did you ever look at him and go ‘I wanna play that?’, Cox said,

I didn’t know about him. I never heard of him… when you said Daredevil, I thought you were like talking about you know a noun like a mountaineer or a rock climber someone who jumps through fiery hoops on a motorcycle. That’s what I thought Daredevil was.

In the panel, Cox was accompanied by Wilson Bethel who plays Bullseye in the series. To the same question, Bethel responded that he also had no idea who Bullseye was before portraying the character.

Fan EXPO has shared the video clip recently on their YouTube channel, and now netizens have been reacting to Cox’s response of who Daredevil was. Social media users have been posting their opinions on X (previously known as Twitter):

This is not the first time that he spoke about not knowing the character before playing. Cox admitted this at the Rose City Comic Con panel conversation as well.

Charlie Cox wasn’t sure of getting a superhero role in his 30s

At the Rose City Comic Con, Charlie Cox thought that his dream to become a superhero would never turn into a reality when he hit his 30s. But look at how his career graph panned out, he began playing Daredevil when he was 32 and he is continuing to do so even in his 40s. Talking about it, he said,

I’d had friends — British actor friends — who’d played superheroes, and that seemed really cool. Andrew [Garfield] is a good friend of mine, I’ve worked with Henry Cavill, it looked really fun to do. Then, you know, when I hit my 30s, I thought, that ship has probably said. I’m too old for that now. And here I am, over 40, and I’m still doing it! Are there any comics where Daredevil has a zimmer frame? Can I keep doing this ’til I’m in my 70s?

For those who don’t know, Cox debuted as the blind criminal lawyer and vigilante on Netflix when he was 32 years old.

Daredevil: Born Again has been scheduled to release on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. The actor even revealed at the Fan EXPO that by the time the first season would premiere, they would begin filming for season 2.
