“I had to fight for it”: Pamela Anderson Almost Lost Her Powerful ‘The Last Showgirl’ Role For 1 Infuriating Reason
- Pamela Anderson gained international recognition as a Playboy model and Baywatch castmate.
- Her lead role in The Last Showgirl marks her return to mainstream Hollywood, but she almost did not make it.
- She has no hard feelings towards the agent who thought that she would not be interested in doing this film.
Pamela Anderson’s comeback is indeed turning out to be stronger than a ’90s trend. She used to be one of the most popular stars in the ’90s and rightfully so. However, things took a turn for the worse when a private tape of her getting intimate with her then-husband, Tommy Lee was stolen and leaked.
The constant media scrutiny along with the pressures of Hollywood and invasion of privacy eventually made her step back from the industry for a while. Now, she is going to make a strong comeback with her role in the movie, The Last Showgirl, which almost did not happen because of a rather bizarre reason.
Pamela Anderson Almost Missed the Chance to Redeem Herself with The Last Showgirl
Pamela Anderson is one of those stars who was just meant to be because she was not actively pursuing a career in the entertainment industry when the brewing company, Labatt decided to hire her as a spokesmodel. She gained recognition in the modeling industry when she appeared on the cover of Playboy magazine’s October 1989 issue.
The following year, she was chosen as the Playmate of the Month in February. She modeled for the magazine for over two decades, earning the record for the most cover appearances. She made her acting breakthrough with her role as C.J. Parker in the show, Baywatch. Having played the character for five years, it made her one of the longest-serving cast members.
Anderson gradually began to distance herself from mainstream Hollywood in the 2010s. Her upcoming movie, The Last Showgirl has effectively thrust her back into the spotlight, but Variety reports that she almost did not do it, and not because she was not ready to take the challenge. Instead, it was because her agent at the time did not think that she would be interested in doing it.
Thankfully, her son, Brandon Thomas Lee was smarter than that. So, when he saw the script on a desk, he enquired about it and brought it to her mother. The Stacked actress was director Gia Coppola’s first choice for the role and the recently-released trailer proves exactly why she is deserving of it.
Pamela Anderson Does Not Have Any Hard Feelings for the Agent Who Almost Robbed Her Off The Last Showgirl
While Anderson is an internationally recognized celebrity, she had not exactly been able to showcase all of her talents as an entertainer before she landed The Last Showgirl. To think that she could have missed out on the movie must be tough, but she is not mad at her last agent. She told Variety:
This person just didn’t seem to think that I would want to do it, or that it wasn’t enough money, or it wasn’t something I was capable of. I think that there’s always an obstacle and this was the obstacle – it almost didn’t reach me. So it was meant to be, but I had to fight for it.
The movie sees Anderson as a showgirl named Shelly, who has been performing for 30 years, grappling with the reality that her show is abruptly coming to an end and planning for her future. It also stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly’s best friend, Billie Lourd as her daughter, and Brenda Song and Kiernan Shipka as fellow showgirls. Shelly auditions for the first time in years while working on her relationship with her daughter.
The Last Showgirl is scheduled to hit the theatres on December 13, 2024.
