“I hope there is a minute of silence in our heart”: Shakira Urges Lionel Messi and His Teammates to Support Iranian Soccer Star Amir Nasr
Amid the excitement over the final football match between Argentina and France, Shakira has brought attention to an important matter which is being overshadowed due to the FIFA World Cup. Though the tournament is a massive event for fans worldwide, the singer had shed light on an Iranian football player, Amir Nasr who is currently on death row.
Her sincere attention to the sensitive topic came at a time when Lionel Messi and his teammates finally bagged this year’s FIFA World Cup trophy after defeating the team France 4-2 on penalties in the final at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
Who is Amir Nasr?
Amir Nasr Azadani is an Iranian footballer who is facing potential execution for participating in the nationwide women’s rights protests in Iran. As per reports, the protest turned into a violent event that led to the death of three security agents.
The 26-year-old player has been accused of “rebellion, membership in illegal gangs, collusion to undermine security and therefore assisting in moharabeh.” For the unversed, moharabeh roughly translates as enmity against God, which is the capital crime in the country.
As per National News, two others who were involved in the protests have already been executed for the same charge.
The protest in Iran started following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman who died after being beaten by the morality police. She was reportedly arrested for wearing a hijab that did not meet government standards when she visited the capital city of Tehran.
