Chelsea Peretti was devastated after Andre Braugher’s death
December 2023 was a sad time for all Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast and crew, as well as their fandom worldwide since the news of Andre Braugher’s passing came to light. The beloved actor played the stern yet caring police captain Raymond Holt on the show. Everyone was beyond shocked and upset by the news since no one saw it coming. Braugher was in great shape before falling ill and eventually passing away due to the brief illness.
Out of all the cast members, Chelsea Peretti was devastated after learning the news. In the show too, her character Gina spent most of her scenes with Holt as she was his executive assistant and close confidant. Speaking to Seth Meyers on his late-night talk show, Peretti recalled an interview that left her in tears after talking about Braugher. She said,
I just did press in Santa Barbara for the film festival. My movie was there, and on the red carpet, the guy goes, ‘What’s your favorite Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode?’ And I’m talking about it. He’s like, ‘Who was funniest?’ I’m like, ‘Andre,’ and I just burst into tears. It was so horrible because to be a celebrity, you’re supposed to be like a complete robot.
Apparently, the interviewer did not stop the interview or make any efforts to console Peretti. Instead, he went on to ask more questions and tried to change the subject. But the damage was done and Peretti went down a dark hole after thinking of Braugher and their time together on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Her publicist also got worried over the incident as Peretti couldn’t stop crying.
What caused Andre Braugher’s Death?
The Emmy-winning actor was just 61 years old when he passed away. The entire cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine came together to mourn the loss and lend their shoulders to each other. Braugher’s publicist Jennifer Allen told the press a few days after his death that the actor had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
Braugher had a long list of projects in his filmography and was a beloved celebrity with minimal controversies or drama in his life. He enjoyed his work and loved making people laugh.
