Christopher Nolan’s Wife Emma Thomas Is Grateful To Imax For Saving Oppenheimer

During a recent interview with the reputed media outlet Variety, Christopher Nolan’s wife and executive producer of Oppenheimer spoke about the epic project, the duration of the movie, and how IMAX saved the project despite a disagreement. On being asked about tweaking the runtime of Oppenheimer, she said-

“The problem was there was really no way you could cut it down. When you look at that book, there wasn’t any version of this film that wasn’t going to be three hours. When I first started moaning about it, Chris would say, “Well, you know … ‘The Avengers.’” And I kept on hearing that, so I just kept saying, “Avengers. Avengers.” I was very grateful that we had this Imax platform that we had; we couldn’t go any longer than three hours.”

On further explaining, Emma Thomas even spoke about the runtime of The Dark Knight, she said-

“Yes. The first time we made film with Imax was “The Dark Knight,” and they then said it can be no longer than two and a half hours. They sort of extended it a little bit so it could be two hours and 42 minutes, or whatever it was. With this film, they put these additional brackets on and said, “Three hours, that’s it.” So I knew we were never going to be able to go longer than that.”

It was due to the condition set by IMAX that the duration of Oppenheimer was extended to only three hours, otherwise, Christopher Nolan could have gone overboard with the runtime.

Christopher Nolan Remembers Heath Ledger While Accepting His First Golden Globe Award

Christopher Nolan won the Best Director for Oppenheimer during the 81st Golden Globe Awards. The brilliant director left almost everyone teary-eyed while talking about the late actor Heath Ledger during his acceptance speech. According to the clip shared by the Golden Globe organization, He said-

“The only time I’ve ever been on this stage before was accepting one of these on behalf of our dear friend Heath Ledger, and that was complicated and challenging for me. And in the middle of speaking, I glanced up and Robert Downey Jr. caught my eye and gave me a look of love and support — the same look he’s giving me now, the same love and support he’s shown so many people in our community over so many years.”

He further added-

“I thought it would be simpler accepting for myself, but as a director, of course, as I stand here, I suddenly realize I can only accept this on behalf of people. As directors, we bring people together and try to get them to give their best.”

The Inception filmmaker mentioned Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, his partner in crime for the past two decades, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, and Emily Blunt in his acceptance speech too. With an IMDb rating of 8.4 out of 10, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is currently available on Amazon Prime Video for rent.
