Before 2016, one might have to imagine what it would be like if Bernthal and Affleck had shared a screen. However, The Accountant left nothing to the imagination as the two confronted each other toward the end of the film and it was revealed that they were estranged brothers. Luckily, a sequel of the movie is in the works, and will reportedly make up for the lack of them having screen time together.

The Accountant is an action thriller film that follows Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff, a deadly assassin and public accountant with high-functioning autism who not only works for legitimate clients but also moonlights as an accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.

Christian takes up the job of auditing the financial records of a robotics company and discovers a great embezzlement scheme in it which leads to a series of dangerous encounters and revelations about his past. One important aspect of his past is his estranged brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal), a hitman who runs a security company.

The brothers were separated in childhood due to their father’s abusive parenting methods and only found out about their personal relationship during the confrontation toward the end of the film. This undoubtedly added a layer of complexity to their dynamic.

In the film, actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson played Marybeth Medina, a Treasury agent looking for Affleck’s Christian Wolff.

My8In a recent interview with Inverse, she expressed her hope that the film will be good and also seemed to hint at the fact that Christian and Brax will reunite.

I’m just really excited because I know what we’ve made. We had such a great time making the movie… [Marybeth] has an amazing arc in this, and I finally got the chance to work with Ben and Jon.

These days Addai-Robinson is busy promoting The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but she claimed that she is very excited to see how fans react to The Accountant 2. She also revealed that filming for the movie has wrapped.

Before she got the chance to shine in The Accountant, Addai-Robinson played small yet significant roles in series like Arrow and Spartacus. She has admitted that the action thriller earned her more recognition than any of her other projects before that.

It was a really big deal for me and one of those projects that I just had such a sense of pride to get to be part of. I get stopped all the time.

Over the years, the movie gained a cult following and a sequel was long overdue. Now, that it is finally happening, fans must be stoked about what the sequel has in store for them. The fact that most of the creative team, including director Gavin O’Connor and writer Bill Dubuque, from the first film, is also a part of this sequel makes it all the more promising.

The Accountant is set to be released on April 25, 2025.
