“I remember almost hitting him with an Oscar”: James Cameron Proves Why He’s a True King by Almost Hitting Disgraced Sexual Predator Harvey Weinstein With His Own Award
When it comes to science fiction and epic film directors, James Cameron is one of the most distinguished names in the industry. The Avatar director boasts of helming famous movies like Titanic, The Terminator, The Terminator 2, and so on. But one of the most interesting scenes he has ever been a part of was not out of any of these movies. That moment came during The Oscars ceremony. And the one opposite him (who was about to be hit)? The infamous Harvey Weinstein.
James Cameron was about to hit Harvey Weinstein with his Oscar
In the Oscars ceremony in 1998, James Cameron had come real close to hitting Harvey Weinstein. Not like anybody would have a problem with that! Weinstein deserves to get hit for all the horrendous acts he has committed over the years.
The Kill Bill: Vol 1 producer is one of the worst real-life villains in Hollywood. He is accused of having committed sexual offenses against innumerable women. He even fell to the extent of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old minor.
“It’s kind of a long story…”
Back in the ceremony in 1998, the producer was engaged in an altercation with Cameron. In 2017, James went into the details of the event with Vanity Fair. He said:
“It’s kind of a long story, but it has to do with Guillermo del Toro and how badly he was dealt with by Miramax on Mimic. Harvey came up glad-handing me, talking about how great they were for the artist, and I just read him chapter and verse about how great I thought he was for the artist based on my friend’s experience, and that led to an altercation.”
Still no matter what the reason was, one would expect both of them to exercise their prudence and calm the hell down. But that wasn’t the case. James said, “I remember almost getting in a fight with Harvey Weinstein and hitting him with my Oscar. It was happening on the main floor at the [theatre].”
Harvey Weinstein and James Cameron were at it even when they were about to go live
A fight at the Oscars is already enough bad publicity for the event. But what if it goes live? The Chris Rock slap incident is a very good reminder of what can follow. Yet those two were not ready to stop even when the music turned on.
Cameron said:
“And the music had started to play to get back in our seats. The people around us were saying, ‘Not here! Not here!’ Like it was ok to fight in the parking lot, you know, but it was not ok there when the music was playing, and they were about to go live.”
Looking at the list of Harvey Weinstein’s crimes, a lot of people would have hoped that Cameron had given him a good one that day.
It all started in 2017 when The New York Times published an exposé of the Hollywood mogul. The allegations kept on piling up. And as of now, the number of women who have filed a complaint against her is both monumental and unbelievable. No doubt why he is loathed by the world.
