“I sent him videotapes of me and my girlfriend”: Shia LaBeouf Landed His Most Controversial Role by Sending Homemade S-x Tapes to Director
Shia LaBeouf and his works both have a historical relationship with controversies. Just like his personal life, the actor’s professional life also has its own share of contentious milestones. One of them was his much-talked film, Nymphomaniac.
Along with LaBeouf, other actors who shared the screen were Charlotte Gainsbourg, Uma Thurman, Jamie Bell, and Stacy Martin. The film was directed by Danish director Lars Von Trier and sees the 27-year-old take on the role of office worker Jerome in a story that follows the erotic life of a woman from birth to age 50.

Shia LaBeouf Reveals How He Got The Most Controversial Role Of His Career
Famous and controversial Hollywood actor, Shia LaBeouf has opened up about how he bagged the role in the highly controversial erotic art film, Nymphomaniac. The actor has revealed that he was asked to send pictures of his p*nis to Nymphomaniac producers. He shared with Danish film company Zentropa Productions, “The first info we got – and I’ll never forget this because my entire team reacted with such a fear – the first request on the production end, not from Lars, was pictures of my p*nis.”

In 2012, while appearing on the US chat show host Chelsea Handler, LaBeouf told, “I sent him videotapes of me and my girlfriend (then stylist Karolyn Pho) having s*x and that’s how I got the job.” The film was promoted with a risque poster campaign depicting images of the ensemble pretending to or**sm in October 2013.
A Timeline Of Shia LaBeouf’s Most Controversial Moments
Shia LaBeouf shot to fame in the early 2000s with roles in Even Stevens and Holes. The success continued with numerous other high-profile films such as Disturbia, Transformers, and Nymphomaniac. But LaBeouf’s career received its first major blow when FKA Twigs accused the famous actor of domestic abuse.
LaBeouf was back in the headlines when he famously turned up to the Berlin premiere of Lars von Trier’s controversial film, Nymphomaniac, Volume I, in February 2014, wearing a black tuxedo and a brown paper bag over his face.

One of his several arrests came in 2014 in New York City for disrupting a performance of Sam Mendes’ rendition of Cabaret. LaBeouf and Sia collaborated on the latter’s music video for her song Elastic Heart in 2015 which drew criticisms for having pedophilic undertones.
In 2017, LaBeouf was arrested and charged with assault at an anti-Trump protest. LaBeouf again landed in trouble with police again in 2020 when he was charged with misdemeanor, battery, and petty theft. In the same year, singer FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against ex-boyfriend LaBeouf. While this was not the end of his troubles, the list of controversies continues even in recent times.
