Marvel Television’s Agatha All Along, starring Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, and more, has reportedly received the highest audience retention rate compared to any of the Marvel series to date. (via Comic Book) The spin-off series follows Agatha Harkness escaping the town of Westview with the help of a goth teen.

Agatha and the teen form a new coven of witches to face the trials of the legendary Witches’ Road. The series came to its conclusion with Episode 9 premiering on October 30, 2024, with a very intriguing twist. In the finale episode, it was revealed that Witches’ Road was not real; in fact, the Ballad of the Witches’ Road was something that Agatha and her son Nicholas Scratch made up to pass the time.

Harkness later started using the ballad to lure unsuspected witches to her to steal their powers. She intended to do the same with the makeshift coven she formed in the initial episodes of the series.

But as the Marvel Universe is famous for unexpected twists and turns, the Agatha All Along finale was no different. Billy Maximoff, played by Joe Locke, used his vast untapped abilities to shape a brand-new reality, creating the Road and every trial the characters faced as they walked on it.

During a recent episode of Marvel Studios Podcast, the young actor was asked about the significant twist in the finale and said,

I think I really…audibly gasped, like really giddy, because I know it’s such a cool twist and makes everything make so much sense. It also shows the extent of Billy’s powers and how he’s so much like his mother, even subconsciously.

It has been reported that the twist in the season finale seemed like a lot of effort had been put into crafting the story of Agatha All Along just the way the audience expected. The series did not disappoint.

Agatha All Along star talks about the special bond between Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness

In a recent interview with Deadline, Joe Locke was asked about his character’s bond with Kathryn Hahn’s character, especially after his character decides to give Agatha some of his power. The actor noted,

Billy and Agatha have such an interesting relationship throughout the whole show. Even after that point, it then goes through more different layers, but at that point, he really believes that they’ve bonded and believes that she both has the will and will not take all of his powers.

Locke acknowledged that Agatha helped him find his brother because of which he thinks he owes her, adding that, as a person who created the road, Billy is giving Agatha the thing she wants at the end of the road. Locke noted it’s a subtle Wizard of Oz-esque in a kind of way, but he does not know it yet.

During the conversation, the Heartstopper actor mentioned that one great thing about their show is that they did not try to make the villains into heroes. The makers let the villains be villains and just added layers to the characters. Locke also shared that the spellbook that the audience saw was a real spellbook.

The actor noted that Billy does not know he’s so powerful or even understand what he’s capable of doing. So Locke tried to balance the differences between Billy’s likeness and darkness. He shared that even if he does not want to, Billy ends up killing three people he likes, pointing out that there is darkness in there and that subconsciously he has allowed himself to do that.

Locke wants to return as Billy Maximoff and hopes that the studios will surely bring him back. Agatha All Along is streaming on Disney+.
