“I think people are going to freak”: Andor Actress Adria Arjona Claims Fans Aren’t Ready for Season 2 of the Best Star Wars Project in the Franchise
Created by Tony Gilroy, 2022’s Star Wars: Andor starring Adria Arjona, Diego Luna, Kyle Soller, and more, is a prequel to the 2016 movie Rogue One. In turn, the 2016 movie is a prequel to the original 1977 Star Wars movie. The television series follows a thief-turned-rebel spy for five years, which eventually led to the events of both movies. The series also explored how the spy becomes radicalized against the Galactic Empire, along with how the Rebel Alliance is formed.
Upon its release, the first season received a positive response from the critics as well as the audience. The series was dubbed the most complex and mature story in the Star Wars universe and even earned nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The actress has now shared an update on season two of the show.
Adria Arjona teases what’s for the audience in Season 2 of Star Wars: Andor
During an interview with the NY Times for her recent movie Hitman, in which she stars alongside Glen Powell, Adria Arjona touched upon the subject of what the audience can expect from season 2 of Andor. The actress plays Bix Caleen, Cassian Andor’s fearless friend, in the show. She said,
I think people are going to freak out when they see it. It’s so much bigger and smart—Tony Gilroy, the showrunner, really outdid himself.
The actress was asked about her experience of being a part of the Star Wars series, especially when ardent fans will nitpick every single deal of the series or movies made. Arjona shared that it does affect the people involved, especially when they spend so much time creating something, and then someone can bash it in three seconds.
Arjona noted that, however, she tries not to pay attention to it as she knows that she does not have any control over it. In an interview with Variety, the actress shared that she gets very emotional when she hears young people say that they want to be in the Star Wars universe and recalled one instance,
I get to the premiere, and there’s this wonderful, beautiful Latin woman in my costume. She had maybe 24 hours to create the costume. She started crying. She’s like, ‘I’m the biggest ‘Star Wars’ fan, but I had never seen a woman like myself in Star Wars.’ I started crying.
The actress added that it has always been a dream of hers to star in Star Wars, to be a part of that universe, and to simply represent it, not in a gimmicky way. She lastly said that she is not a Latin woman in Star Wars; she is just a woman in Star Wars. Arjona has always praised the showrunner’s vision, mature storytelling, and intricate character development.
Adria Arjona reveals what appealed to her about playing Madison in the Glen Powell starrer Hitman
In her interview with the NY Times, the actress was asked about what appealed to her the most about her character in Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell. She said,
I fell in love with the idea of Madison that was in the script—it was her trajectory, but not her soul, and they were looking for someone to come in and bring something to it. I loved that I couldn’t pinpoint what she was going to do next. She is not perfect, and she is constantly trying to play the fantasy.
Arjona added that Madison has her idea of a femme fatale; she is creating one herself. However, the actress clarifies that she cannot be more opposite to the character she is playing on screen. She also called Glen Powell one of the best co-stars anyone could ask for, adding that he’s so gracious and such a gentleman with curiosity.
The actress noted in her Variety interview that Powell is someone who likes to win with a team. She explained to the publication that the actor is the pure definition of what it means when an actor needs their partner on-screen to win with them, especially while filming a romantic scene.
Hitman is now available to stream on Netflix, while Star Wars: Andor season 2 is scheduled for a 2025 release.
