“I took the Monkey Lamp”: ’Gilmore Girls’ Star Lauren Graham Faced the Same Predicament as Seinfeld Star Julia Louis-Dreyfus When Her Show Ended
- Lauren Graham famously played the role of Lorelai Gilmore in the TV series Gilmore Girls.
- In an interview, Graham admitted that she had no recollection of her scenes in the show.
- Much like Graham, Julia Louis-Dreyfus also does not remember anything about her time on Seinfeld.
Gilmore Girls is one of the most iconic TV sitcoms of the 2000s. The show has a dedicated fan following even after years since the final season of the show aired in 2007 and rightfully so. Lauren Graham famously played Lorelai Gilmore, the central character of the show.
In an ironic turn of events, despite playing the character for that long, Graham once admitted to having no recollection of everything that her character had done throughout all those seasons. This is very much like Julia Louis-Dreyfus who also once revealed that she did not remember a thing once the popular TV series Seinfeld came to an end.
Lauren Graham Does Not Remember a Rather Iconic Moment from Gilmore Girls
Lauren Graham‘s career as an actress did not come easy. In fact, some of her early gigs were not half as glamorous as Gilmore Girls or any of her subsequent projects. That said, she had regular guest roles in numerous TV shows between 1996 and 1999. Some might even remember her as the speed-dial-ranking girlfriend of Jerry in the sitcom Seinfeld.
Graham’s breakthrough role came in 2000 when she landed the role of Lorelai Gilmore, a 32-year-old single mother who runs a local inn, loves pop culture and coffee, and gave birth to a daughter named Rory when she was just 16.
There were several iconic moments in the show like that one time Lorelai dressed up as a literal painting for the Festival of Living Art to which Luke had a priceless reaction and the other time Kirk adopted a cat and in true Kirk-fashion, named it after himself.
Another of these iconic moments is when Lorelai buys a tacky monkey lamp much to her best friend Sookie and daughter Rory’s amusement. The lamp, a symbol of Lorelai’s quirky taste, became a running joke in the series. However, in an interview on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Graham said that she did not remember anything about it. Or the show for that matter.
I have no idea. And that’s how much I can’t remember what happened, but I took the monkey lamp because, of course, I should know what the significance of the monkey lamp is. I was like, “Thank you, really? The monkey lamp, thank you so much.” And I have no idea.
It was nice of her to take the lamp just to humor the producer. One can only imagine how the producer might have felt if he ever came across this video. Fans might never find out. However, it has to be noted Graham is not alone on the boat of things forgotten after the show is over.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus Has No Memory of Scenes from Seinfeld
Louis-Dreyfus who played the character Elaine Benes and even won numerous TV awards for her performance on Seinfeld also does not remember much about the scenes or even the backstory behind those scenes.
A couple of years after Seinfeld was officially over as a TV show, the Veep star appeared in an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman. During the interview, she candidly admitted that she could barely remember anything from the show which must have been a surprise to many.
It is actually not that rare for actors to forget about some parts of their work. Several actors have publicly said that they have no recollection of some roles they have played or some scenes they did in a movie or show.
Gilmore Girls and Seinfeld are available for streaming on Netflix.
