Widely regarded for her unparalleled talent and groundbreaking contributions, Emily Blunt has become an iconic figure in the industry. Her ability to portray a wide range of characters, from the fearless and fierce Mary Poppins to the complex and vulnerable Rachel Watson, has made her one of the most sought-after actresses in her generation.

As prominent figures in society, it is obvious that they often find themselves in the public eye, and the remarks they make can quickly gain attention and go sensational, especially if they are perceived as regressive or hurtful. In the case of Emily Blunt, she has decided to step forward to rectify a previous comment she made during an interview, which went viral and caused significant backlash.

Emily Blunt expresses regret for her past controversial comment

Emily Blunt is getting ahead to head off a possible scandal by issuing a public apology and clarifying the intent behind the controversial remarks she made. Recently, a decade after the incident, fans unearthed the viral clip of the actress’ September 2012 appearance on the UK’s Jonathan Ross Show promoting her movie Looper, where the actress referred to a waiter as “enormous” while recalling her time working on the film

“If you go to Chili’s, you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous. Well, the girl who was serving me was enormous.”

And recently, on Friday, she decided to step forward and issue an apology for the offensive remark she made about the restaurant employee. The Quiet Place actress stated,

“I just need to address this head-on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12 years ago, I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.”

Blunt continued that she did not recognize herself at that moment when she commented, and she emphasized that the remark she made was uncharacteristic of her and not representative of her principles.

“I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for. And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”

She concluded by apologizing once more to anyone who had been hurt by her remarks, and she admitted that she “was absolutely old enough to know better”. Her apology, which acknowledges a previous error in judgment, highlights her dedication to encouraging kindness and sensitivity in her public remarks.
