“I was not happy”: Before John Stamos Divorce, Rebecca Romijn Already Had Beef With X-Men Director Who Humiliated Elliot Page
The character of Mystique, also known as Raven Darkhölme, was played by actress Rebecca Romijn in the 2000–2006 X-Men original trilogy. Mystique is a shapeshifter who can expertly duplicate any person’s appearance and speech.
For portraying a supervillain and an antiheroine who is frequently recognized as one of the most potent and notable female antiheroes, the actress received tremendous appreciation from both reviewers and the audience. Rebecca Romijn did not particularly enjoy working on the last film, X-Men: The Last Stand, despite having a great time playing the character. Let’s find out why.

Rebecca Romijn on working with X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner
Director Brett Ratner took over the reins from Bryan Singer when he directed 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, which is the sequel to X2 and the third installment in the X-Men trilogy and featured the cast including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Rebecca Romijn, etc. The movie received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics, even though it was known to be the seventh highest-grossing movie in 2006.
According to reports actors including Elliot Page, Olivia Munn, and Natasha Henstridge had allegedly called out Brett Ratner for sexually harassing them and acting rudely to them while working on the movie. But actress Rebecca Romijn never really spoke about the situation until she was asked during an interview with The Independent.
She said,
“I was not happy working with [Brett Ratner]. But he’s been cancelled. I haven’t spoken up about anything with regard to #MeToo, because I had two major issues with two directors I’ve worked with – and both of them already got theirs, one of them being Brett Ratner… I didn’t feel like I needed to say anything. I know the two people that I worked with had it coming, and they got theirs… I don’t need to say anything else.”
The actress also added that she feels comfortable throwing the director under the bus publicly.

Rebecca Romijn on reprising the role of Mystique
Regardless of having a troublesome time towards the end of playing a fan-favorite character on-screen Romijn is ready to reprise the character if given a chance. The prequel franchise, which was launched in 2011, included Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.
Romijn in an interview with ComicBook via, ” I don’t know if they would ever want me back.I mean, that was quite a few years back when I played that character, but I would love to, yeah, absolutely. It was a fantastic franchise to be a part of. I’ll love that cast until the day I die. We had a great time together. And yeah, I would absolutely be open to that.”
The actress who was previously married to John Stamos also recalled via THR how she portrayed the character of Alexis Meade, a trans character in Ugly Betty, adding that if she ever gets a chance to reboot the character, a trans actress added that it is the correct thing to do now to play it.
Romijn noted that when she played the character she wanted to do justice by portraying her on-screen before adding that it feels like the character moved the needle forward for the representation of felt trans women on-screen.

Rebecca Romijn’s ex-husband John Stamos pens down the aftermath of their divorce
Rebecca Romijn and Full House alum John Stamos announced their separation in 2004 and in his upcoming memoir, If You Would Have Told Me, the actor details how he dealt with the separation from the actress, which is something he never expected would happen.
He said in a recent interview with People, “My first marriage was shattering for me. I was shattered for way too long, too. I mean, a year, okay, good. But it went on [for] years and years.”
The actor went on to share that for him to write chapters surrounding his marriage with Romijn was difficult because it made him reflect on his feelings about the actress at the time.
“In my mind back then, she was the Devil, and I just hated her. I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.” After blaming the actress for a good amount of time, Stamos said he recognized that he also had some part in the failure of his marriage with the actress.
He added that he feels that Rebecca Romijn was trying to make their marriage work because she cared about it felt, but after things didn’t work out, they went their ways adding that the separation was very public and very painful. Stamos is now married to Caitlin McHugh Stamos, whereas Romijn is married to Jerry O’Connell.
