“I went flying…”: One Moment on ‘Outlander’ Got So Heated Sam Heughan Left Caitriona Balfe Unable to “walk properly for about 3 days”
- Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan play the lead roles in the popular series Outlander.
- While Heughan is seen as Jamie Fraser, Balfe portrays his wife, Claire.
- However, during the shooting, Caitriona Balfe suffered from a minor injury because of Sam Heughan.
Outlander is a drama series set after the Second World War revolving around Claire Beauchamp Randall (Caitriona Balfe), who can be seen enjoying her honeymoon with her husband in Scotland in one moment. But in the next, she is transported to a mysterious world where she meets Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a handsome warrior. The series is currently airing its season 7, part 2 on Starz.
The cast has already wrapped filming the final season and said their goodbyes. During the shooting, Balfe, who plays a nurse in the World War II based drama, got injured. In a recent conversation, the actress opened up about the moment which left her unable to walk for three days and jokingly blamed her on-screen husband for it.
What was the on-set mishap that led Caitriona Balfe unable to walk for 3 days?
In August 2024, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe appeared on Josh Horowitz’s podcast and talked about their experience together on Outlander and how their work relationship has been on-set. When the interviewer asked whether they knew how to break each other or push each other’s limits now after working for so many years, Balfe shared a hilarious story.
Not spoiling any scene or episode, Balfe began to describe a recent on-set mishap. Sam Heughan interrupted her and said, “I guided her into the woods”. Further explaining the recent incident, the actress added,
Yes, guided me quite forcefully into a piece of wood. He also, there was a scene in this season, where we were sort of having an argument and Sam likes to sometimes push and I think I went flying and landed on the other side of the room on my a*s. I couldn’t walk properly for about three days.
When Josh further asked Balfe if she ever got her revenge on Heughan, she said that she got to giggle. Intervening the conversation, the actor described how she turned her back to the camera and laughed blatantly at his face while he had to continue doing the scene with a straight face.
What happened to Caitriona Balfe in the woods?
Well, pushing Balfe and leading her to fly into another room wasn’t the first incident. The actress got injured because of Sam Heughan before as well. While shooting for Outlander season 3, Balfe, who plays Claire Fraser, bruised the bridge of her nose.
In 2017, the actress took to her X (previously known as Twitter) account and shared a photo of her bruised nose. Balfe wrote,
Real reason they leave stunts until the last day..incase @SamHeughan steers you into a log.
Well, that was the ‘forceful guidance into the woods’ they were talking about on Josh Horowitz’s podcast which led her to burst her nose. Heughan even joked that Balfe got fringes to hide her ‘war bruise’.
As the series is inching towards the end, the whole cast has been on an emotional roller coaster ride. The fans are disheartened to say goodbye to such a great show.
If you haven’t watched Outlander yet, before the season finale airs, stream all the episodes on Starz.
