Who’s Michael Corleone Blanco?
The only living son of drug cartel boss Griselda Blanco, Michael Corleone Blanco, is now a business and fashion icon. He left the world of drugs and illegal activities behind to lead a regular life as anybody would do after numerous assassination attempts on their life.
Corleone spoke to The Mirror in an interview and shed light on his complicated childhood that was impacted drastically by his mother’s drug cartel and crime world dealings.
“My mother was no saint. She had to survive to do her thing. But at the end of the day, she was my mother. I will forever honour and respect her. I love her.”
Griselda Blanco was no ordinary drug boss. Known as the Cocaine Godmother, she pedaled the infamous drug across America from Columbia and entangled thousands of people’s lives in the vicious clutches of the drug. As hard to give up as cocaine is, her empire grew swiftly as more people started buying it.
Even though she started off as a mere pickpocket and prostitute, she tasted real success and money after creating her cocaine empire because of her second husband. Surviving assassination attempts must have been easy compared to seeing her beloved children getting murdered. Corleone further shares how he gambled his life every time he stepped out of the house.
“’I was told, you’re a Blanco, part of that nobility. So when you drive, make sure you’ve got people in cars driving around you, driving behind you. And have your gun right under your thigh. I lived the life of a teenage capo. I wasn’t allowed to be a kid, I had to risk my life every single day I left the house for being a Blanco.”
Even his name Corleone is inspired by the character in the Godfather movies, forever linking him to the world of drugs and criminal activities. It must have been incredibly difficult for Corleone to step away from that life and do something different after his mother Griselda was assassinated in 2012.

Griselda on Netflix
The drama miniseries Griselda on Netflix charts the drug cartel boss’ life across the decades. From her rise to fame to her hot temper that gets worse with every second, the series sheds light on her crimes that amassed over 200 murders to protect her billion-dollar worth. Sofia Vergara stars in the show as the titular character. Directed by Andrés Baiz, the show is now streaming on Netflix.
In 2020, Jennifer Lopez also made a movie on the drug boss, to which Corleone said he was honored that a massively successful star is making a movie about his mother. However, Michael Corleone sued the makers of Griselda for their use of his personally documented materials. The statement released with the lawsuit reads,
“Make no mistake, Michael Blanco is humble and thrilled each and every time someone reaches out to shine light on his mother and the Blanco family. However, in the case of Netflix/Latin World Entertainment, the Defendants approached Michael Blanco to gain his work, perspective, and insight to only turn around and act like he does not exist, in an apparent attempt to reap their own profits.”
It appears that Corleone had plans to create a Spanish soap opera on his mother’s life but Netflix came at it first and did not give any credit to Corleone’s contribution to making the show what it is. The larger-than-life character’s interesting story is covered in six episodes at the height of her fame in Miami.
