Channing Tatum has had tough luck in bringing his Gambit dreams to fruition. The actor has toiled to create a standalone film for the popular X-Men character. However, Disney’s acquisition of Fox has caused all his efforts to be in vain.

Tatum was set to play Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit in the 2009 movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That sadly never happened, as Taylor Kitsch played the part instead. The character in itself, has been loved unanimously. Even so, a solo Gambit movie never made it to the silver screens.

Initially, Deadpool was also one such film struggling to be greenlit. Ryan Reynolds famously took the matter into his own hands by leaking some footage of him playing Merc with a Mouth. The reaction from the fans was enough and Deadpool happened. Tatum too is heavily inclined to pull a Ryan Reynolds for a solo Gambit movie.

The outpour of love the character has received in Deadpool & Wolverine with a significantly short amount of screen time has given Tatum hope. He might get to fulfill his Gambit dreams. In a recent TV appearance, Tatum joked about the extreme measures he is willing to take for a standalone Gambit movie.

In an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Vow actor spoke candidly about his plans for the film. He has spent a lot of time and energy creating a standalone Gambit film, only for it to be canceled through some studio acquisitions.

He is now desperate to play the character in all its glory to reveal how fascinatingly layered it is. While speaking to Fallon, Tatum made a humorous comment to express his dedication to the film. He said:

I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen. I would kill kittens.

And while this is not ideal X-Men behavior, it is a testament to Tatum’s familiarity with the character. Will Tatum finally bring Gambit to life in a standalone film or the fans’ hopes will get crushed yet again? Only time will tell.
