“I would love to do anything”: Heart of Stone Star Gal Gadot Breaks Silence on Rejecting Margot Robbie’s Request to Join $1B Barbie
In a candid interview, Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot opened up about her missed opportunity to join the cast of Margo Robbie’s Barbie-led movie. Gal Gadot while expressing her admiration towards Robbie’s and her skills also shared her hope to work with her in future projects.

Margot Robbie’s First Choice: Gal Gadot the Wonder Women
The recent release, the Barbie movie has been one of the biggest hits at the box office this year. Even though the film has received a lot of attention due to its storyline and theme, its behind-the-screen stories and casting history have not been any less interesting. In the 14 years of its making the movies have been tied up with several stars at many intervals.
Talking about the same Margot Robbie confirmed that before taking the role for herself for Barbie, Robbie’s first casting choice was Gal Gadot. As per Robbie, she wanted Gadot to play one of the Barbies in the movie, although due to scheduling conflicts, it was not possible.
Reacting to this revelation, Gal Gadot during a career-spanning interview with Flaunt, expressed her admiration towards Robbie whilst sharing her hopes to partner with the producer/star on future projects. Talking about this Gadot said “I adore Margot. Margot is one of those women who you just want to be friends with. She is so funny, warm, fun and smart and so talented. She brings so much to the table. I would love to do anything with Margot and was very touched [by her comments]. She warmed my heart with everything that she said about me. I’m super excited for them, and I’m so excited for ‘Barbie’”.
Margot Robbie’s Barbie: The Casting Carousel
Before its record-breaking release, Barbie went under a lengthy development cycle that had several stars attached to it at various points. When the movie was under Sony, Amy Schumer was one of the first actors that was tied to this project. Although the movie and its script were still in development in 2017 Schumer drooped out of the project as she wanted to focus on other works.

After Schumer dropped out of the project, Anne Hathaway took her place. The movie was set to release on August 2018 under the direction of Alethea Jones. However, the creators of the movie were not able to finalize the script, and after waiting around for a long time, Anne Hathaway also dropped out of the movie.
Finally, in 2019, Margot Robbie was announced as the new Barbie with a completely new script and new studio. Greta Gerwig and Noha Baumbach boarded the Barbie flight as co-writers and the script was finalized. The creativity of Greta Gerwig as both writer and director and the excellent performance of Margot Robbie all made the movie one of the biggest hits of this summer season. Ever since its release on 21st July 2023, the movie has kept the theaters full to their capacity.
