“I’d rather get in a car crash with Evans”: Jeremy Renner and His Avengers Co-stars Absolutely Hate to Do One Thing on Social Media
Avengers fans will be super elated to hear that the actors behind their favorite heroes are actually closer friends off-screen than they are in their roles. Jeremy Renner, who played Hawkeye, spoke about the real friendship he has with his fellow actors.
During the twelve years of filming the Avengers movies, Jeremy Renner, alongside actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, developed a strong bond. Renner likens it to being part of a close-knit team, almost like a family.
He feels this way about all his co-stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, and Elizabeth Olsen. It’s evident that their bond goes beyond professional collaboration, and Renner prefers not to discuss this aspect on social media for good reason!
Avengers Cast Shows Genuine Friendship Beyond Screen Time
Jeremy Renner revealed that his friendship with his fellow Avengers co-stars is the real deal. In a recent interview with Men’s Health, the Hollywood action star opened up about how close he is to Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and the rest of the crew. He said:
I’d rather go to jail with Downey than go do something amazing by myself. I’d rather get in a car crash with Evans.
It goes way beyond just posting pictures together online for promotion. The 53-year-old stated that they absolutely hate that. Instead, these superheroes have a private group chat where they keep in touch and support each other through life’s ups and downs—like marriages, divorces, and even having babies. The actor continued:
Oh, f*ck yeah, it’s a real thing — it’s not just for Instagram. In the films, we look like we’re at a costume party, and there’s ridiculous props and we’re doing these ridiculous things, but it’s also beautiful because we’re all connected.
Avengers Stars Rallied Around Jeremy Renner After His Accident
Jeremy Renner was hospitalized in January 2023 after a snowplow accident left him with over 30 broken bones. His fellow Avengers co-stars, including Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr., all expressed their shock and relief over Renner’s recovery.
In an interview with GQ UK, Hemsworth revealed that the Avengers group chat was buzzing with activity after the accident. “We were all on our ‘Avengers’ text chain, we were all chatting. And it was wild,” the Thor star said.
Scarjo also shared her relief and joy at seeing her fellow Avenger after his snowplow accident. The Black Widow actress told Variety that she was “so f*king happy” to see Renner recovering well.
“I didn’t know if I was ever going to see him again,” she admitted. Johansson went on to describe the Hawkeye actor’s positive spirit, saying he’s “full of life and light,” and that they shared some laughs together.
