Nicole Kidman is quite the Renaissance woman, juggling a stellar career with a heart of gold. She’s not just an Oscar and Emmy magnet from her iconic roles in Moulin Rouge, The Others, and The Hours—where she nabbed an Oscar for playing Virginia Woolf—but she’s also a TV dynamo.

If you’ve seen Big Little Lies, you know she’s got some serious acting chops, making it look like she was born for the role. But wait! Kidman isn’t just about the red carpet. She’s also a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and is involved in various charitable causes. The actress is a triple threat: talent, philanthropy, and timeless relevance in Hollywood.

Even so, Kidman once got mixed up about a project. The Hollywood beauty thought she was signing up for a spine-chilling horror film, but surprise! She was actually cast in an underwater superhero epic. DC fans might find this amusing, considering the project was none other than Aquaman!

Nicole Kidman’s Funny Confusion About Aquaman’s Genre

Nicola Kidman, who hasn’t appeared in a superhero film since Batman Forever in 1995, made a splash in Aquaman. When the project first came her way, the Aussie actress couldn’t resist the offer to transform into a mermaid warrior. When director James Wan, the master of horror behind hits like The Conjuring, reached out to Kidman, she was over the moon.

Her excitement wasn’t just about teaming up with a renowned director—it was about getting her hands dirty with another spooky role. Kidman was ready to embrace a new horror flick, not realizing she was actually being invited to join the cast of Aquaman. The 57-year-old told L’officiel:

I’d really wanted to work with him in horror.

Having already made waves in Batman Forever, she was eager for another unique project. It turns out her confusion wasn’t just a laughable slip—it shows her eagerness to try new genres she hadn’t tackled before. As Kidman added:

The thing people don’t understand is, it’s not about the check. A lot of the mainstream big blockbusters that I do are hopefully different.

She portrays Atlanna, the mother of Arthur Curry (played by Jason Momoa). Atlanna was once the queen of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and is the mother of both Arthur Curry and Orm Marius. Long ago, she escaped an arranged marriage with King Orvax, met Thomas Curry, and eventually married him.

Nicole Kidman is feeling nervous about her new film, Babygirl, which will soon be shown to audiences. In a recent Vanity Fair interview, she shared that filming the erotic thriller left her feeling deeply vulnerable. She said:

It left me ragged. At some point I was like, I don’t want to be touched. I don’t want to do this anymore, but at the same time I was compelled to do it.

In Babygirl, Kidman plays a successful businesswoman with a seemingly perfect life with her husband, Jacob (Antonio Banderas). However, her life turns upside down when she starts an affair with a new intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson.

The Bombshell star confessed that acting in this film made her feel exposed on many levels—emotionally, as a woman, and as a person. Kidman often found herself needing to recover and reassess what she had just done after intense scenes.

Babygirl is set to be released on December 25, 2024. Meanwhile, you can watch Aquaman on Disney+.
