“If I don’t win, I’m leaving”: Jennifer Lawrence on Golden Globes 2024
Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most hilarious and relatable actors in Hollywood. When she is not leaving the audience in splits with her many antics in the real world, she is busy swooning Hollywood with her acting chops. Her films have grossed over $6 billion worldwide, and she was the world’s highest-paid actress in 2015 and 2016.
Sadly, she did take a break from acting due to media scrutiny of her films and mixed reviews, but she came back with a bang in no time with Don’t Look Up (2021). Her 2023 movie No Hard Feelings even snagged her a Golden Globe nomination this year.
Lawrence always likes to keep it real, and this year’s Golden Globes was no exception. She provided the Golden Globes with the most unforgettable gag of the year, and viewers were having the time of their lives.
Jennifer Lawrence’s reaction to her Golden Globe nomination was hilariously on-brand
Although Lawrence is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, she rarely brings that attitude with her anywhere. From her Oscar trip to her funny interviews, she reigns in the hearts of the audience with an iron fist just because of her candid nature. She brought this attitude to the Golden Globes this year as well.

Usually, when an actor’s name is announced for nomination in a particular category, they humbly smile and applaud at best. But not Jennifer Lawrence; she made sure her fun personality shined as she was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy. She looked at the camera, as if breaking some sort of fourth wall, and mouthed the words,
“If I don’t win, I’m leaving.”
She managed to keep a straight face throughout it all and even showed her thumb towards the exit to assert her faux seriousness.

The award finally went to Emma Stone for Poor Things, and Jennifer Lawrence was her biggest cheerleader at the award show. This marked the second Golden Globe in Stone’s career, after 2017’s La La Land.
Emma Stone also had nominations for best performance in a drama television series due to her stupendous performance in The Curse. She was previously nominated for the Golden Globes for her movies Easy A, Birdman, Battle of the Sexes, The Favourite, and Cruella. Jennifer Lawrence was also up against Fantasia Barrino for The Color Purple, Natalie Portman for May December, Alma Pöysti for Fallen Leaves, and Margot Robbie for Barbie.
How did Jennifer Lawrence’s No Hard Feelings get conceptualized?
Jennifer Lawrence is best known for portraying dramatic characters in movies such as Winter’s Bone, Silver Linings Playbook, and The Hunger Games, among many others. However, recently, after her break, she truly got to flourish and show off her comedic side with No Hard Feelings, and she got immediate recognition from both critics and the audience alike.
Many might not know this, but the plot is actually based on a Craigslist ad that director Gene Stupnitsky once discovered. Lawrence later told Entertainment Weekley that,
“Gene read the Craigslist ad to me, and I died laughing. I thought it was hilarious, but there wasn’t a script or anything. I just thought he had a funny idea. And then a couple years later, he handed me the funniest script I’ve ever read in my life.”
The movie follows a young woman who is a Montauk Uber driver facing a financial crisis that could inevitably end up taking her beloved home. In sheer desperation, she accepts a Craigslist ad by a helicopter parent who asks her to seduce their son so he does not go to college as a virgin. Hilarity ensues as the said teen turns out to be extremely introverted.
No Hard Feelings is available to stream on Netflix.
