The story of a gangster family from Birmingham, which initially aired on BBC Two only to become one of the most popular shows globally, will possibly see an extension of its universe. Cillian Murphy starrer Peaky Blinders concludes its sixth and final season in early 2022. The fans’ sorrow of the show coming to an end was soon swayed by the show creator, Steven Knight announcing that there will be a Peaky Blinders movie. This announcement was made as early as January 2021. But there doesn’t seem to be a lot of progress on that front.

Cillian Murphy was launched into global fame for his role as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders. The post-World War environment of working-class Britain captivated the audience. Newsboy caps and pocket watches have certainly added to the charm.

Cillian Murphy who recently starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, has revealed in an interview that the groundwork is not laid for the Peaky Blinders movie. Although, the Irish actor said he would love to be a part of it.

“If there’s more story there, I’d love to do it, but it has to be right. Steve Knight wrote thirty-six hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more.”

The talks of the film started as soon as 2021. The Peaky Blinders showrunner Steven Knight has called the show very cinematic and has ideas to develop a project to debut the story on the silver screen. After the curtain for the Peaky Blinders show dropped, the talk of the film brought a glimmer of hope for Peaky fans.

“We are in development. It’s a fully formed idea, and it has a beginning, middle, and end. And I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story. There are so many people, so many great actors, that we are already, sort of, in conversation with for the film……And for whatever follows.”

The shooting for the movie was supposed to kickstart this year but the strikes have brought the entire entertainment industry to a halt, causing several projects to get delayed.
