Oprah Winfrey is considered the richest female self-made billionaire, with her net worth touching $2.5 billion. Much of her riches is due to the astronomical success of her talk show titled, The Oprah Winfrey Show.

The daytime chat show aired for 29 seasons and changed Winfrey’s fortunes. But the effect of the show wasn’t limited to just transforming the 69-year-old’s life, as talking to her during the show influenced the lives of personalities in unimaginable ways.

Such was Winfrey’s magic that it made many individuals celebrities overnight just on the back of making appearances on her show, and that phenomenon is even honored with the term The Oprah effect to signify the magnitude of her influence. No wonder, during the peak of the show, even high-profile celebrities queued up to get screen time.

Oprah Winfrey Rejected 50 Cent as a Guest on Her Show

The magnitude of Oprah Winfrey‘s popularity and the respect she commands from Hollywood can be judged by seeing just how many A-listers flew to Chicago to make their appearance in her farewell moment after 25 years on television.

Tom Cruise, Beyonce, Will Smith, Halle Berry, and Jerry Seinfeld among others turned out to pay homage to the legendary host in 2011. The same flashy list of guests was a regular sighting in her shows. This also meant that not every celebrity found it easy to get an opportunity to talk to her in front of the camera.

Curtis James Jackson III, popularly known as 50 Cent, saw his initial attempt at making an appearance in Winfrey’s show fail. In Da Club rapper purportedly didn’t take the snub very well, confessing in his self-help book, Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter:

“She was completely against everything that was in my music. So she ain’t never going to have me on that show. I’m never going to reach that platform, which is a confirmation of you being a huge success. So I just said: OK, if we can’t be friends, then at least let’s be enemies.”

50 Cent also named his dog after Winfrey, however, whether that move was solely motivated by the failure to make an appearance in her show or for other reasons as well remains unclear.

Oprah Winfrey’s Reaction to 50 Cent Naming His Dog After Her

The queen of daytime TV is known for her sharp questions and when she finally interviewed the popular rapper, she made sure to bring the topic to the fore. She said: “I heard you have, you have a dog named Oprah.”

As expected, 50 Cent was left a bit stunned in that situation and could only reply, “Yeah.” 

Winfrey clarified that she wasn’t offended by his decision, and rather she took it as a compliment regardless of what he actually aimed for. To that, 50 Cent had one response: “I love you!”

The host then got a little more serious and asked the rapper to give more insight into his thinking. He said: “At the time, I was just looking at the situation, and I’d say I was just developing negative feelings for someone who doesn’t even know me.”

Finally, 50 Cent admitted things are different and he had built a great affection for her over the years.
