“I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch”: Grant Gustin Will Return as The Flash Under 1 Condition as Fans Want James Gunn to Cast Him in the DCU
The future of the DC universe seems as bright as ever under James Gunn’s leadership. However, amidst the buzz and speculation surrounding Gunn’s vision, one question keeps coming to fans’ minds: Will Grant Gustin reprise the role of The Flash in the DCU?
Gustin has been nothing short of iconic as The Flash. He was the fastest man alive for nine seasons and the favorite hero of the Arrowverse. Gustin has become the poster boy for The Flash and the series finale still had fans hoping for more of him in the role of Barry Allen.
Will Grant Gustin Return as The Flash?
James Gunn was confirmed as co-CEO of DC Studios and since then, he has been working to reboot the DC Universe. With Gunn’s creative vision, DC will never be the same again as he brings back old and new favorite superheroes and introduces new stories for fans to enjoy.
In a fan interaction video, Grant Gustin was asked if he would ever consider returning as The Flash, to which he replied,
Yeah, if James Gunn asked me to play The Flash, I would do it again. I trust James Gunn.
Moreover, in a conversation with Comicbook, Gustin talked about the conditions he would like to consider before confirming to return for the role. He said,
If someone called me today or tomorrow and was like, ‘Hey, we have this amazing Flash idea,’ obviously it’s like, I’m gonna take that phone call and listen to that idea. And I think this is a character that I’m going to — no matter if I play it again [or not] — I’ll probably be associated with this character more than anything else in my career, for the rest of my life. So, I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch.
With such words from Gustin, DC fans can only hope that they will get to see him back in the costume of the scarlet speedster. It also reveals the level of respect and trust he has for Gunn and his craft. Moreover, Gunn himself has been complimenting Gustin for his performances.
During a recent fan interaction, a question was posted on Threads where a fan asked Gunn to consider casting Gustin again as the new Flash of DCU. To this, Gunn replied that Gustin is not part of any DCU project at the moment but he hopes to work with him at some point.
Grant is an incredibly talented guy, performing now on Broadway, I believe, and is absolutely not going to waste just because he’s not currently in a DC project. But of course I’d love to work with him at some point.
With the help of Gunn, who has a lot of experience making movies and TV shows with complex plots and writing and portraying many iconic characters, Gustin could show spectators new sides of The Flash that they have never seen before.
Grant Gustin Has Been in Talks With James Gunn But Not About The Flash
Notably, Gustin recently disclosed that he had a recent conversation with Gunn. However, it was not related to The Flash. Rather, their conversations have primarily been about Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot. Gustin has also expressed his excitement about David Corenswet being on board to play Superman.
In the interview with The Wrap, Gustin revealed that he was unaware that he was being filmed when he talked about returning as The Flash under Gunn’s leadership. He also revealed his conversation about Superman with Gunn,
We’ve never talked about Flash. We’ve talked, just like, I’m a huge Superman fan. I’ve always been a Superman fan, since I was a kid. So I’m just really excited about the movie. And I’m excited about David’s casting.
I’m excited to see what James Gunn does with it. So I think at one point — maybe a couple different times, we’ve DM’d about ‘Superman.’ We’ve literally never talked Flash. I’m just excited that he’s doing Superman.
This conversation shows Gustin’s honesty and shows how much he values Gunn’s work and the new DCU’s potential. It also hints at future working opportunities for the actors after the film ends and the possibility of exploring other stories besides The Flash. Gustin’s dedication to the role and Gunn’s clear confidence and respect for the character also makes for a great starting point for a potentially new vision for the Flash.
