Although Wesley started on the show as an actor, he also directed some episodes later on and even took on executive production duties for some projects. Besides his active involvement behind the scenes as well as on the screen, he is a fan of watching movies himself. In fact, one of his favorite movies is a Leonardo DiCaprio blockbuster that left him devastated.

Paul Wesley‘s first acting role was in the TV soap opera Another World and the second one was another soap opera named Guiding Lights. He was in junior school when he was cast in the latter of those. Although he joined college initially, he dropped out later to build a career in acting.

Wesley starred in numerous TV shows like The O.C., Smallville, and Everwood before he was cast in The Vampire Diaries as Stefan Salvatore. The character barely needs any introduction. He was easily one of the most beloved TV characters for years. Playing a hot, 162-year-old vampire does the trick. The show was aired for a total of 8 seasons from 2009 to 2016.

While promoting the show in an interview with Seventeen, he was asked to name the chick flick he secretly loved. He replied:

I’ll fully admit that when I went to the movie theater and saw Titanic, I cried afterwards. When Leonardo DiCaprio died, I genuinely had tears. The fact that I’m crying over Leonardo DiCaprio says something.

Well, Wesley was certainly not the only person who cried after watching Jack sink to the cold bottom of the ocean in an attempt to save Rose after the shipwreck. Titanic, which earned $2.2 billion at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo), is one of the most tragic love stories to date. Ironically, Wesley got his own tragic ending at the end of The Vampire Diaries.

Over the years, there have been many tragic love stories. Sometimes, one of them dies and then there are also instances when it just does not work out for the couple, although that is rare. The ones who die become heroes even if it costs their loved ones a lifetime of grief.

Stefan Salvatore was also one such hero who sacrificed himself to destroy Katherine Pierce and the hellfire. His sacrifice allowed his loved ones like his wife Catherine Forbes and his brother Damon Salvatore to live safely. Wesley could not have been happier with that outcome.

During his appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Wesley revealed that he asked the writers to kill Stefan because he deserved it considering his actions in the past.

Yes, he died. I was very happy he died and I had actually requested that he died. He did a lot of bad things and I felt like he deserved death.

That is certainly shocking. Some characters have done much worse and still get to live. Perhaps, it is a matter of ethics. Regardless, the ending was definitely worth it even if some fans are still heartbroken.
