“I’m here for that”: Scarlett Johansson is Willing to Return as the Most Savage Version of Black Widow That Will Terrify Fans
Scarlett Johansson is undeniably one of the most talented actresses in Hollywood. Having embarked on a career in show business in 1994 as the daughter of John Ritter in the fantasy comedy North, she has now become the highest-grossing star of all time since her movies have grossed $14.3 billion globally. Not to mention that she is one of the few actors to have gotten two Academy Award nominations simultaneously.
Scarlett Johansson gained worldwide recognition with her role as the Marvel superhero Natalia Romanova, more commonly known as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow. She debuted as the hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the 2010 Jon Favreau movie Iron Man 2 and had seemingly bid adieu to the character after the 2021 solo prequel movie Black Widow. She has recently expressed her interest in returning as a variant.
Scarlett Johansson May Return as Black Widow
Having started professional acting at the age of 9, Scarlett Johansson transitioned to adult roles in 2003 with Sofia Coppola’s Bill Murray starrer rom-com Lost in Translation and Peter Webber’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. She won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress.
The 2021 movie Black Widow was a solo prequel movie set after the events of Captain America: Civil War. Natasha met an untimely end in the 2019 movie Avengers: Endgame. However, recently, she was rumored to make a comeback in the franchise.
Addressing the rumors in an interview with TODAY, Johansson expressed her interest in returning as a variant of her character, saying:
“I feel like that’s kind of the end, right? Like, can you come back? Could it be, like, a vampire version of the character? Because I’m here for that. Like, a zombie version, maybe?”
In a comic book limited series Marvel Zombies vs. the Army of Darkness, Romanoff is one of the Avengers affected by the Sentry. She is seen eating a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. Additionally, in the Marvel Zombies series, she is one of the zombies who attacks the Silver Surfer. Now that the MCU is fully utilizing the Multiverse, there is a chance for this to be adapted in live-action.
Scarlett Johansson Found Completing Black Widow’s Story Bittersweet
Initially, Emily Blunt was supposed to play the role of Black Widow but had to opt out due to other commitments. Scarlett Johansson was nominated for 2 Teen’s Choice Awards and 3 People’s Choice Awards for her role in the 2012 movie The Avengers. It was the human qualities of this character that made her want to do it.
Johansson officially bid adieu to her superhero character in the 2021 prequel movie Black Widow. In an interview with Good Morning America in June 2021, she said:
“I’ve had an incredible decade working with my Marvel family. I’m going to miss not seeing them every 18 months or two years, like those kinds of milestones I always really look forward to. But I feel really proud of this film and I think it’s great to go out on a high note. This movie is so different from any other Marvel film that we’ve done so far, so yeah… like I said, it’s bittersweet.”
The Nanny Diaries actress returning to her character as Scarlett Johansson would make her death a little pointless. Not to mention that her sister Yelena and her colleague Hawkeye’s grieving about her death would be in vain. The lawsuit against Disney+ over Black Widow also does not help her case.
