“I’m hoping to come back as Hermione”: Harry Potter Star Makes His Stance Clear on if They Will Return to Reboot After Black Snape Casting

Actor Jason Isaacs is widely known for playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter franchise from 2002 to 2011. The actor was highly praised for his work as the head of a wealthy pureblood wizarding family. He has appeared in projects including The Patriot, Black Hawk Down, Peter Pan, and more.

Isaacs is going to be seen in the third season of the black-comedy drama anthology The White Lotus. Where fans are very excited to see the actor appear in Mike White’s show, they cannot help but wonder if the actor would ever return to the Harry Potter world now that a reboot is on its way.

Jason Isaacs talks about his potential return to the Harry Potter franchise

Ahead of the release of Mike White’s The White Lotus, Jason Isaacs, who plays Timothy Ratliff on the show, spoke to ScreenRant about the Harry Potter TV show reboot.

The actor shared with the publication that he already knows who has been cast for the upcoming Harry Potter’s show and extended his full support to the showrunner Mark Mylod. Isaacs said,

I know who they’re casting. Some of them, and they’re incredible actors. And the same people who did the films are doing it, and Mark Mylod is running it, who is a brilliant showrunner. I worked with him years ago on Entourage, but he ran; he did lots of Game of Thrones. We did Succession as well. He’s a phenomenally talented man, and they don’t need any advice from me.

The fact that the actor has been praising the new cast for the upcoming TV reboot speaks a lot. It brings in some confidence for the audience to know that the new cast members will be able to carry the new show on their shoulders.

In an interview with Deadline (via Discussing Film), the actor was asked if he’d like to return for the Harry Potter reboot series, to which he jokingly said,

I’m hoping to come back as Hermione.

At the panel discussion at Universal Orlando’s Celebration of Harry Potter back in 2017, the actor was asked about how he feels to portray a character like Lucius Malfoy. He shared that he was terrified of being bland around the incredible actors, but then he asked for a wig and the robes. (via People)

The actor detailed that the makers wanted him in a suit with ordinary hair, but he tried to come up with a voice that sounded like fingernails on a blackboard. He admits that he wanted his character’s voice to irritate the viewers in one syllable.

Jason Isaacs was inspired by a combination of a teacher from drama school who’d constantly whisper in a very high voice and British art critic Brian Sewell. He has also revealed that initially auditioned for the role of the Dark Arts professor Gilderoy Lockhart.

Jason Isaacs was afraid to take a part in The White Lotus Season 3

At the season three premiere of The White Lotus, Jason Isaacs shared with THR that he was afraid to take up the role of Timothy Ratliff after he first read the script. He said,

I thought about whether I was a good enough actor to pull it off.

He noted that his character has some incredibly difficult things to do but added that it’s Mike White, and the kind of creative, low buzz of terror eased away as soon as he started to get on set with him. The actor also shared during the red carpet interview that after they started working, he realized that the White creates an atmosphere of controlled chaos.

Isaacs mentioned that Mike White would catch anyone who falls while working. The actor admits that that gave him the confidence to keep going, as he believed that if he didn’t get there, Mike White would help him to get there in terms of his character portrayal. Upon asking about his character on the show, he said,

He’s created in that way so that the audience leans in and is intrigued. So I could tell you everything about him, and then nobody will watch.

However, he added that they filmed in Thailand for seven months, but it wasn’t a holiday. Isaacs recalled that it was insanely hot a lot of the time, but they were in beautiful places, but the fact that they were there for a very long time made it feel like paradise, yet like an open prison.

The White Lotus Season 3 is scheduled for release on Feb 16, 2025.
