This year’s Marvel show, Secret Invasion stars Game of Thrones alum Emilia Clarke as well as Ben Mendelsohn. The two actors recently sat for an interview together where they discussed various topics which inevitably included another big franchise that they have both been a part of, namely Star Wars.

While Clarke was a part of the 2018 movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Mendelsohn starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which was released two years prior. However, despite their roles in the franchise, the actors avoided answering about their future in the Star Wars world, seemingly due to their current association with the Marvel Studio.

Without any doubt, Emilia Clarke is one actor that has successfully been a part of a huge franchise and film series which includes one of her most popular tv series Game Of Thrones. She played the role of Daenerys Targaryen. Apart from that she also starred in another big franchise film Solo: A Star Wars Story as the titular lead Han Solo’s love interest, Qi’ra.

Currently, the actress is signed with Marvel Studio for its Disney+ series Secret Invasion. The series started streaming in June this year where Clarke plays the character of G’iah. Recently, while in an interview with IMDB with her Secret Invasion co-star Ben Mendelsohn, the two actors were naturally asked about their Star Wars past.

Both the actors have been a part of the franchise, with Clarke in the 2018 Solo and Mendelsohn in 2016’s Rogue One. But when asked about reprising their characters in the future in this space sci-fi franchise, Clarke, unfortunately, could not say anything specific. She shared,

“Well, you know what, umm,”  “I’m in Marvel now, I’m not allowed! What about you?”

Following this, Mendelsohn also had something similar to say, although he did confirm the potential that his Rogue One character Orson Krennic has. But as far as it is concerned, both the actors have no definite plans for the Star Wars franchise, at least shortly.

Frequently asked questions

What did Emilia Clarke mean by "I'm in Marvel now, I'm not allowed"?

When she and Secret Invasion co-star Ben Mendelsohn were asked in an IMDB interview about reprising their Star Wars roles, Clarke jokingly deflected with "Well, you know what, umm… I'm in Marvel now, I'm not allowed! What about you?" It was a lighthearted way of avoiding the question, partly tied to her current Marvel association. It was not an official statement ruling out a Star Wars return.

Which Star Wars and Marvel characters has Emilia Clarke played?

Clarke played Qi'ra, Han Solo's love interest, in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). On the Marvel side she plays G'iah in the Disney+ series Secret Invasion, which began streaming on June 21, 2023. Her co-star Ben Mendelsohn, also asked in the same interview, played Orson Krennic in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016).

Does this mean Emilia Clarke will never return as Qi'ra in Star Wars?

No. The article does not confirm her Star Wars story is over, nor does it announce any new project. Clarke simply declined to give specifics, and the piece notes that neither she nor Mendelsohn has any definite Star Wars plans for now. Any specific Qi'ra return remains fan speculation rather than a confirmed announcement.
