“I’m not sure…”: James Bond Star Daniel Craig Regretted His Role in MCU Director’s $176M Film That Pitted Him With Harrison Ford
Daniel Craig is a versatile actor who is highly acclaimed for his role in the billion-dollar spy franchise James Bond after succeeding Pierce Brosnan after Die Another Day in 2002. The British actor rose to fame with the critically acclaimed movie Road to Perdition.
Daniel Craig has also worked with the legendary actor of Indiana Jones fame Harrison Ford in Cowboys & Aliens. The Jon Favreau-directed sci-fi thriller revolved around a combat between aliens and cowboys as mentioned by the title of the movie.
Daniel Craig Regretted Working In Harrison Ford’s Cowboys & Aliens
Both Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig are seen as cowboys in the Jon Favreau-directed Cowboys & Aliens. During an interview with the reputed media outlet ABC, the director mentioned-
“The aliens give [Cowboys & Aliens] an opportunity to open it up and make it something that’s a little bit original, a little different, but we never wanted to give up that ground that was the Western tradition,”
Harrison Ford recalled that he simply did not like the script. He recounted-
“Well I read 30 pages and then I threw it across the room and I called my agent and I said, ‘I don’t get it. There’s nothing in this for me. Why are you asking me to do this?’”
He further continued-
“I thought this was clearly something I haven’t done before and one of the things to do at this stage is something you haven’t done before. As much as I have been part of sci-fi movies, I always approach them as fairytales. I didn’t really think of the sci-fi,”
During an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Daniel Craig said-
“I’m not sure anyone knows what to make of this movie,”
Despite having great actors as leads, the movie was not received well commercially and critically. The sci-fi drama dealt with alien invasion over the old west.
Daniel Craig On Working With Harrison Ford In Cowboys & Aliens
During an interview with the reputed media outlet Entertainment Weekly, the director Jon Favreau and actor duo Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig spoke about Cowboys & Aliens. On being asked about what led to the making of the movie, Harrison Ford mentioned-
“Mine. But I didn’t tell anyone until the third day.”
Director Jon Favreau added-
“Actually, that was Ron Howard. When he came on board to produce, that’s one of the things he did. But look, it’s called Cowboys & Aliens. I mean, we are in on the joke. It’s not like we’re trying to make Unforgiven here.”
While talking about the movie Daniel Craig said-
“The title Cowboys & Aliens is what it is. But it’s just one gag. And the gag is that aliens come down in cowboy times. But once you tell that gag, it’s over. So we all decided to tell a story. A journey of redemption, the journey of two characters that have to redeem themselves with the backdrop of this sort of crazy [alien invasion] thing. So we just played the reality of it.”
The James Bond actor was intimated by his legendary co-star Harrison Ford during the filming of Cowboys & Aliens. With an IMDb rating of 6 out of 10, the movie is available for streaming on Amazon Prime.
