Vergara decided to part ways with Joe Manganiello last year after seven years, even though it was a tough call. Their relationship hit a rough patch because they couldn’t see eye to eye on the issue of having children. She felt that was the right time to stop going along with something that didn’t feel right anymore.

Sofía Vergara looked back on her life in an interview with EL PAÍS after her split from actor Joe Manganiello — her second marriage, which lasted 10 years. She said:

My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore. I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother.

Now that Vergara is getting older and nearing menopause, she has decided that if she falls in love again, the person should already have kids. This way, she can focus on enjoying her life without starting a new family from scratch. She’s excited to be a grandmother, whenever son (Manolo Gonzalez Vergara) has children of his own.

The 51-year-old will gladly spend time with her grandchildren and then give them back to her son so she can keep living her own busy and fulfilling life. This is the path the star believes is best for her right now.
