A new TV commercial for Spider-Man: No Way Home raises anticipation for the film by characterizing it as “larger than you could ever conceive” and displaying a fresh image of a smashed Green Goblin mask. In No Way Home, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) persuades Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to perform a perilous spell in order to undo the exposure of his identity to the world at the conclusion of Spider-Man: Far From Home. When the spell mistakenly throws the multiverse wide open, Peter is forced to battle adversaries from a variety of other realities-villains who have already fought and fallen to Spider-Man. Many fan-favorite historical Spider-Man villains will make their MCU debuts in No Way Home, including Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Sandman, and Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy. The film will also include returning MCU performers like Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, and Marisa Tomei, as well as Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Rhys Ifans’ Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man movie. With just a few days till the premiere of No Way Home, excitement is building as fans grow more and more thrilled to witness one of Marvel’s most ambitious movies yet.

To hype the excitement even more, a new mini-trailer has arrived:

A new mini-trailer has come to add to the excitement. The teaser (via Spider-Man: No Way Home News) emphasizes Doctor Strange as a mentor figure for Peter, warning him about the spell and claiming that “once that spell breaks free, they’re all coming here.” Electro, Sandman, and Lizard appear before a fresh view of the legendary Green Goblin mask, destroyed and abandoned in an alleyway. When Strange urges Peter to “don’t do this,” Peter responds, “I have to try.” Watch the full trailer below:

What’s the deal with the Green Goblin mask getting smashed?

The destroyed Green Goblin mask corresponds with promotional material for No Way Home; most recently, a video posted to the official Spider-Man YouTube account previewed an epic combat sequence between Peter and an unmasked Green Goblin. The lack of a mask may imply that the borders between Norman Osborne and the Goblin are getting more blurred, in contrast to Raimi’s Spider-more Man’s split-personality approach plot (2002). The sight of the shattered mask is followed by a familiar Green Goblin cackle, foreshadowing the mayhem that Osborne may be able to wreak in MCU Peter’s realm. Dafoe has previously suggested some new technologies for the Green Goblin to experiment with in No Way Home, including some “costume changes.” Defoe’s Goblin is one of the most beloved Spider-Man villains, and many fans will undoubtedly spend the days until Spider-Man: No Way Home’s release wondering about what his mask being broken apart may entail. Fortunately, they won’t have to wait long.
