Internet Slams Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal Best Actor Oscar Snubs: “The Irish people do not deserve this”
Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal are two Irish superstars that took the world by storm with their fantastic performances in the films The Banshees of Inisherin and Aftersun, respectively. These films did phenomenal business, thanks in large part to the contributions of these stars.
So when they were nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 2023 Oscars, fans were excited. However, it turned out that the competition for the award was largely between Brendan Fraser (who eventually won the award) and Austin Butler. This caused a lot of heartbreak for the fans of the Irish stars, who vented their grief and agony on Twitter.
This Year’s Oscar Nominees Show Diversity
The nominations for Best Actor, Actress, and Director at the Academy Awards continue to leave fans disappointed, and fans were quick to show their anger on social media platforms. The Oscar nominations for 2023 were announced in January by previous year’s Best Actor nominee Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams, who praised Everything Everywhere All at Once, a war drama, All Quiet on the Western Front, and The Banshees of Inisherin as front-runners for the year’s biggest award ceremony. While the Oscars honor all aspects of cinema, the Best Actor and Director categories are one of the most talked about, which highly disappointed viewers this year.
In addition to that, the 2022 Indian film RRR’s song, Naatu Naatu, won the Oscar for the original song category. And breaking the records and making history, Everything Everywhere All at Once dominated this year’s Oscars by winning seven awards, with the winning categories including Best Director, Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Lead Actress, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, and Editing.
Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal’s fans took Twitter by storm
It has been a lava-fueled race between the top five Best Actor nominees: Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Austin Butler for Elvis, and Bill Nighy for Living. While Fraser took home the big win, fans are not so happy for Colin Farrell and Paul Mescal as they became the snubs for this year’s Best Actor category.

It sucks because the Academy favors biopics and prosthetic work tbh, and also Colin has had a big redemption arch and comeback after the beginning of his career, and personal struggles, but a lot of people forget that part of his story I think, unfortunately

People probably want Brendan to win but Colin has been delivering since his career started

The Aftersun movie, directed by Charlotte Well, was undoubtedly a treat for the viewers; it was filled with emotional heartbreak as the story revolved around a painful father-daughter relationship and an eye-opening film. The Irish actor Paul Mescal played the role of the father character in this movie with an excellent performance alongside his co-star Frankie Corio.
