Is Iron Man Returning? Robert Downey Jr. Reportedly Spotted on the Sets of ‘Captain America 4’
With 2008’s Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe and not only won over the general public by showcasing his acting prowess as one of the best in the business but also the devoted Marvel Comics fans who always hope for a little more than what is depicted in the comic book.
With his charm and presence, Robert Downey Jr. helped Iron Man establish himself as one of the MCU’s most enduring characters. A strong foundation can indeed help a building grow, and Marvel did the same for the future of their MCU with Iron Man’s success and popularity.
Is Robert Downey Jr. coming back as Tony Stark in Captain America: Brave New World?
According to a status post on LinkedIn by a keynote speaker, Nawar Shora, who shared a picture of him around the sets of the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World in Washington D.C. The movie is starring Anthony Mackie as Captain America and Shora shared that he managed to speak to a couple of security guards who had revealed to him that actor Robert Downey Jr. was on the set the night prior.
Shora added that the security guard had also shared with him that everyone was driving all sorts of supercars. Now, after the status went viral, the question of Downey Jr.’s presence on the sets of Captain America: Brave New World raised speculation about him being back in the MCU as Tony Stark.
However, it seems very unlikely for Downey to return as Iron Man in the MCU, especially after his devastating and heartbreaking death in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame where he sacrificed himself to beat Thanos and save the world. But some fans also stated that Marvel has now opened the portal of the multiverse, which somehow makes it possible for Tony Stark to reappear.
Captain America: Brave New World starring Anthony Mackie wraps up filming
The cinematographer of the highly awaited Captain America: Brave New World, Kramer Morgenthau, took to his social media to share that Marvel Studios have successfully wrapped up the shoot for Captain America: Brave New World.
Morgenthau had previously served as the Director of Photography for Thor: The Dark World. Captain America: Brave New World stars Mackie Sam Wilson, who has now officially taken the mantle of Captain America after Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, passed the shield to him in Avengers: Endgame.
Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly, who are once again playing the roles of Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley, respectively, will join Mackie in the upcoming Captain America movie, which is part of Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Additionally, Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler will also be reprising their roles as Marvel villains Samuel Sterns/Leader and Betty.
The upcoming Marvel movie will also include some newcomers in the MCU including Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross and Shira Haas as Sabra, with Xosha Roquemore and Seth Rollins in an undisclosed role.

What do we know about Captain America: Brave New World?
Captain America: Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah and is written by Malcolm Spellman, who worked as the head writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier along with Dalan Musson.
Talking about taking up the shield after Evans, Mackie explained that it’s a huge amount of pressure, adding,
“You throw my dumb ass in the water, and you’re like, ‘Swim.’ I’m like, ‘Shit.’ But at the same time, it’s all in the state of mind. I’ve been given a great cast. I’ve been given a great group of people who I’ve worked with before.”
Mackie recently revealed that he originally intended to play the Black Panther in the MCU, a role that was ultimately played by the late actor Chadwick Boseman. However, the actor now says that he is extremely proud and thrilled to be playing Captain America. The actor previously made a hint that his Captain America wouldn’t be in charge of the reuniting Avengers, unlike Rogers.
Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters across North America on July 26, 2024.
