According to the reputed media outlet Collider, after the theatrical release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony Pictures was heading for another collaboration with director Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield for a 2016 release. In accordance with a few leaked emails in 2015, the actor could not turn up for an event where Sony Pictures was supposed to announce The Amazing Spider-Man 3, a movie that never ended up happening. As per Wall Street Journal, the leaked emails mentioned-
“Here we are about one hour away from our gala event and Andrew decides he doesn’t want to attend,” the email read. “He has a rather scruffy beard and he just wants to be left alone.”
However his multiversal cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home has already given hope to Andrew Garfield’s fans and even speculated that he might make a comeback with the threequel of The Amazing Spider-Man. After reprising his role in the Tom Holland movie, the actor mentioned about how the multiversal introduction changed the life of Peter Parker. During an interview with The Direct, Andrew Garfield said-
“It’s changed his life. He’s going back knowing that he has brothers. He’s going back in re-inspired to follow his destiny, his calling – the purpose of his life. By catching MJ, he got to make up for a terrible tragedy that he tried to avoid in his world.”
During an interview with Brandon Davis on Comic-book’s Phase Zero Podcast in 2022, Tom Holland spoke in support of Andrew Garfield. He said
“I think what was so wonderful was how Andrew was able to kind of make amends with the character and the studio, you know, to kind of win the general public back. That scene where he saved Zendaya, the fan reactions in the theater was so spectacular. So should Sony decide to do that, they would have my full support, and obviously, so would Andrew.”
However, there has been no confirmed update on the development of the third chapter of The Amazing Spider-Man, but that has not stopped his fans from hoping for Andrew Garfield’s comeback in the Spidey suit.
Tom Holland Regretted Replacing Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man
In an era when replacing someone is not a big deal and one flop movie is enough to write off an actor’s Hollywood career, Marvel actor Tom Holland was regretful about replacing Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.
During an interview with the famous media platform The Hollywood Reporter, the English actor poured his heart out and even mentioned about making a call to Andrew Garfield and informing him about the big change. He said-
“That’s because of my naivete as a kid. I was 19 when I got cast. I was so caught up in getting the role that I never took any time to think about what it must have been like for him. If I’d made my second movie and it didn’t necessarily deliver in the way it should have done and they recast me, I would really struggle to bounce back. Andrew bounced back in the most unbelievable way. I just wish I’d called him and just said, ‘You know I can’t turn down this opportunity.'”
While talking about the all-Spidey chat group, The Crowded Room actor said-
“It was wonderful. Myself, Andrew, Tobey — we have this amazing bond as three people who have been through something that is so unique that we really are like brothers. We have a great group chat and we catch up every now and then. It’s called the Spider-Boys.”
