“It made me so sad”: Matt Damon Was Heartbroken With His Friendship With Ben Affleck After His Father’s Death

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are the best buddies in the Hollywood industry. They have been friends for a long time. Fans loved their bromance in the industry. However, there was a time when their friendship went through a tough time, and they were not the best friends that fans know now.
The 52-year-old star, while taking on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, revealed he and Affleck went through a period where they were not close. Damon shared he and the Batman star grew apart following the death of his father, Kent Damon, in 2017, with whom Affleck was very close.
The Oppenheimer star cited the death of his father changed his relationship with his best pal. He said,
“It’s like it changed something in us. I think and you know, you start to really…you start to see the end game and you start to feel like I want to make every second count. I don’t want to fritter away time anymore.”
Matt Damon went on the realization of what he and the 50-year-old were missing after watching the 2021 Beatles documentary Get Back. The renowned rock band was caught in the documentary as they wrote and recorded their final studio album before splitting up in 1970. The star revealed,
“It made me so sad… because you look at them and they’re so happy. And Ben and I, I called him and I said, ‘Look man, you know, we were talking about [working together more] and it’s been 25 years or something since Good Will Hunting like… what are we doing? You know, we both kind of hit the lottery. Why aren’t we working together more often?'”
The two have made time count since then and collaborated on various occasions. They are still best friends and continue to shine in the entertainment industry.

The actors first connected at a very young age. Matt Damon was 10 years old, and Ben Affleck was eight when their friendship started. They lived two blocks apart in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their passion for acting in baseball brought them close.
The Gone Girl star and Damon started auditioning together in New York. They got their first role in the industry as uncredited extras in the Kevin Costner hit Field of Dreams. The 52-year-old and Affleck costarred alongside Brendan Fraser in School Ties in 1992.
The duo co-wrote 1997’s Good Will Hunting. The film was a major success at the box office. The Batman star and Air actor co-starred in the film. The actors won Academy Award for best original screenplay for Good Will Hunting.
The Agro star and Matt Damon reunited for The Last Duel, 24 years after their first film. In November 2022, they established their production business Artists Equity. The first film from Artists Equity, Air, coacted and directed by Ben Affleck and starring Damon, traced the story of Nike sports executives who, in 1984, signed NBA star Michael Jordan to a record brand contract.
