Jennifer Lopez had an on-and-off relationship with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs from 1999 to 2001. The couple never had a legal marriage, but in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2001, Lopez revealed how Diddy used to make her feel like he wanted a divorce.
A lot. He told me many times, ‘I want a divorce. I would be away a lot, or he would… he couldn’t go far, whatever, but he would say, ‘So, where do I send the paper?’
The two lovers could not see each other regularly since they were both busy with their work, and whenever they could not take it anymore, Diddy used to come up with a divorce proposal. Describing that situation, Lopez told Vanity Fair,
It wasn’t a great time in my life. It was scary. And we broke up many times before that, and got back together and broke up again, and nobody knew about it. It was very tempestuous. Towards the end it was emotionally exhausting. It was good that I was young.
The couple was also arrested over a shooting incident at a nightclub in 1999. Although Diddy got cleared of charges, that was quite stressful for both of them. In the Rolling Stone interview, Lopez said that they “were somewhere we shouldn’t have been” and it was “unfortunate“.
Situations like these affected Lopez negatively. Now, as she is going through a divorce from Ben Affleck, former CEO of Death Row Records, Suge Knight, made some allegations related to her past relationship with Diddy.
While appearing on the Collect Calls With Suge Knight podcast (via Vibe), Knight said that Affleck got some compromising footage of Lopez from raids of Diddy’s home, and that has fueled their ongoing divorce. Although there has not been any confirmation yet, it hints how her past relationship might have been troublesome.

The couple met on a family outing, where they were seen spending some quality time with their kids. Both were also seen wearing their engagement rings. According to People, they are “still moving forward with the divorce though.”
The insider revealed that their divorce is not easy due to personal differences along with its public nature. However, Lopez doesn’t want her kids to have a negative impact because of it, and their happiness is her current priority.
