Five years after the musician had gained fame with the debut single Runaway, he was “enjoying a moment” with Hurley while on the New Jersey tour with the band. They were in Los Angeles and the view from his room was that of a billboard featuring the Bon Jovi band. He asked his fiancee if she wanted to go to the Sin City and she agreed.

It cannot be denied that Jovi’s decision was a little reckless since he just up and went to Las Vegas with his fiancee, determined to get married with their taxi driver as the witness at the Graceland Wedding Chapel. Things became real when the news of their marriage went public. As Jovi recalled to PEOPLE:
“[..] it shocked a lot of people — shocked about everybody: the band, management, agents, lawyers, parents, you name it. It’s a shame because it should have been a beautiful moment, but after we did it, people were trying to take it away, until I stood up and went, ‘Wait a minute, why are we living our life for anyone else?’ And 35 years later, we’re still married.”

However, it was unfair for everyone to try to make things difficult for the newlywed couple instead of celebrating it. Thankfully, Jovi knew what he had to do and instead of doubting his actions, took complete responsibility for it.

Bon Jovi was undoubtedly one of the most eligible bachelors in America when he married. So, the news was bound to enrage the female fans who were taken aback to find out that he was taken. Much like the scenario would be now if one of the most popular celebrities with a huge female fanbase were to get married.
Jovi confirmed as much during an interview with Mirror, saying:
“It was like Harry Styles or Justin Timberlake getting married. I was that to the young girls in my time. When I came back from Vegas my manager was furious. He was like, ‘America’s boy is now married… that’s not a good career move’. The record company was also despondent.”
Even his mother was not very happy with the decision, but as they say: all is well that ends well. The couple has been married for more than thirty years, share four children, and are still going strong.
