“It was probably never going to be what I wanted”: Upsetting News About Zack Snyder Fans As He Closes Door on His Star Wars Movie
DCEU and Zack Snyder are synonymous with each other. One of the multi-talented personalities in Hollywood is the brain behind giving structure and dimension to the billion-dollar superhero franchise. The American director has come up with epic blockbusters like- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Man of Steel, Justice League, and Wonder Woman from the house of DCU.
Popularly known for his dark mature themes, slow-motion techniques, and larger-than-life look of the production house, Zack Snyder has been a recipient of the Academy Awards too. The 57-year-old director has diverted his attention from the superhero universe to the intergalactic world. He is currently working on the celestial saga Rebel Moon, which is supposed to premiere on Netflix by the end of 2023.
Zack Snyder Provides An Important Update On His Star Wars Project
During an interview with the reputed media, print outlet Empire magazine, Zack Snyder revealed that he had pitched the R-rated Star Wars movie idea to Lucasfilm during the filming of the much-hyped Henry Cavill movie Man Of Steel. According to the Wonder Woman director, the studio did not even pay attention to his script at that time. He said,
“A Star Wars movie was my original concept for Rebel Moon. It was Seven Samurai in space. I knew that the origins for George [Lucas] were a lot of those Kurosawa films. The sale [of Lucasfilm to Disney] had just happened.”
While talking about the importance of the freedom of creativity concerning his intergalactic project, Zack Snyder further added-
“There was that window where, you know, who knows what’s possible? I was like, ‘I don’t want any of your characters. I don’t want to do anything with any known characters, I just want to do my own thing on the side.’ And originally I was like, ‘It should be rated R!’ That was almost a non-starter.”
The Justice League director was apprehensive whether his Star Wars-inspired project would get the studio’s approval. He mentioned- “I knew it was a big ask, to be honest. But the deeper I got into it, I realized it was probably never going to be what I wanted.”
Though Zack Snyder’s dream project based on the intergalactic mission never came to fruition, it led to the birth of his upcoming sci-fi saga Rebel Moon. The epic space opera is produced by his production house The Stone Quarry.
Zack Snyder On Henry Cavill’s Man Of Steel Look
The charisma of superheroes sets them apart from the crowd, but it takes a lot to come up with a perfect face, body language, physique, and most important factor great acting abilities in one person for the development of a superhero. Actor Henry Cavill is one of those actors in Hollywood, who was born to play Superman. It is difficult to imagine anyone else in his shoes.
During an interview with the media outlet The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder recalled the moment when he felt he had found the perfect face for the superhero. Henry Cavill was asked to wear the same spandex outfit that Christopher Reeves had worn during his stint with DC as Superman. The director-turned-screenwriter said-
“When you see the suit on the ground, it’s kind of shriveled up, it’s just spandex, it looks like, ‘Oh God, that’s not going to be cool.’ “Henry put it on in this trailer. And there’s a version of this where he comes out and is like, ‘I’m Superman!’ and you’re like, ‘OK, it’s Halloween.’
He further continued-
But Henry came out and even the crusty grips we hired for the test got quiet. Everybody was heart-attack serious. He had just the right energy. We were like, “Oh, he’s Superman. That’s what Superman looks like.’“
Since then Henry Cavill has reprised his role as Superman in the 2016 and released Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the 2017 released Justice League film. Recently, Henry Cavill was replaced by The Politician actor David Cornswet in the upcoming James Gunn’s directorial venture Superman: Legacy.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is expected to premiere on Netflix on December 22, 2023.
