Back in 2009, Cate Blanchett opened up about her experience working with Brad Pitt on the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button — a 2008 epic romance film directed by David Fincher. The movie tells the story of Benjamin (Brad Pitt), who ages in reverse, unlike most people. Born looking like an old man in his eighties, he gets younger as the years go by.

The film follows his life as he experiences the world in a way nobody else does: forging relationships, traveling through time (in a way), and facing the joys and hardships of his unique situation. This heartwarming story also features a love story between Benjamin and a woman named Daisy Fuller (Blanchett).

The film was challenging for both actors, but Blanchett revealed that the biggest challenge wasn’t the long shooting hours. It was Pitt’s obvious adoration for his then-girlfriend Angelina Jolie.

Cate Blanchett recently dished on the behind-the-scenes secrets of her film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It turns out, achieving the movie’s incredible aging effects wasn’t easy.

She revealed the makeup process for Brad Pitt‘s character, who ages backwards throughout the film, took a whopping six hours! That’s a lot of sitting still, and according her, it left both of them feeling pretty wiped out. The Marvel actress told Telegraph in 2009:

We talked a lot about moisturizer because there were so many prosthetics involved for both of us. I really shouldn’t complain, though, because Brad really went through the wringer with make-up and special effects. You work until 10 o’clock at night and then you are maybe up at 4am the next morning because it takes six hours to get the make-up on.

That wasn’t the only hurdle for Blanchett on the set. She jokingly revealed the most annoying part was actually her co-star Pitt. The Australian native said with a laugh, referencing his then-partner and future wife:

To see how in love with Angelina he is, it was really quite disgusting. Awful in fact. It’s in my contract now: I won’t ever work with him again.

Of course, it was all in good humor. With her comments, it seems the mom of four shared a great bond with the Hollywood star, to the extent that she felt so comfortable speaking in such a manner. According to WatchMojo, this could also be because of how Pitt initially refused to film a kissing scene with her. The reason? Allegedly, the Fight Club star didn’t want to upset Angelina Jolie. However, he eventually agreed to film the scene as planned.
