Greta Gerwig bonded with Ryan Gosling over Sylvester Stallone

In a recent interview, Greta Gerwig revealed that she has been a fan of Sylvester Stallone for a very long time so she decided to feature his multiple pictures in her recent release. It has been known that Ken, played by Ryan Gosling, who leaves Barbieland with Margot Robbie’s Barbie, comes across images of Sylvester Stallone when he is out in the real world where they get to see how the real world is different from the world they had been living in, which eventually leads to him having an identity crisis.

The identity crisis makes Ken wonder what kind of person is considered a real man in the real world and he decides to start dressing up like how Stallone dressed up in the 1970s to showcase more dominance. Greta, in her interview with Uproxx, explained this transition,

“So it was an early thing. When Ryan Gosling and I were texting a lot, we kind of both stumbled upon our mutual love of Sly Stallone. And then we were talking about his appearance in the ‘70s and how terrific it was. And he adorned himself as a man. And we thought, “Well, that’s a good place to start.” I mean, there are just sort of fabulous images of him, particularly in the Rockys.”

Greta Gerwig appreciates Margot Robbie and Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz

The director, who is very grateful and overwhelmed with emotions about how wonderful their movie has been doing plus receiving such great reviews from people across the world, was asked about one of the most clichéd things like how Mattle allowed her to do several things in the movie.

She answered “I am not sure how this happened and how they let me do this. It was some amazing confluence of events and a ripple in the universe that allowed it to slip through. I think that the script that Noah and I originally turned in is very like the movie you saw. But there were certainly meetings and different things. But at the end of the day, it all happened.”

She further noted, “I do have to say the current CEO at Mattel, Ynon (Kreiz), is incredibly brave, and he doesn’t lead with fear and he gave us creative freedom.”
