Skeleton Crew, upon release, has received positive comments from critics as well as the audience. The creator of the show, Jon Watts, had initially pitched it as a film right after Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. However, the audience appreciated the series’ format, but what they noted is that there weren’t any major Star Wars cameos in the movie.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew show-runners address ‘no Star Wars cameos’

Jude Law stars as Jod Na Nawood in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford. The series’ first season recently concluded with the show receiving positive comments, but unfortunately, the viewership for the show has been comparatively less.

In comparison to The Acolyte, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew did not have any Star Wars cameos despite the series expanding on existing lore. Creators of the show Jon Watts and Christopher Ford recently spoke to ScreenRant, where they addressed why they didn’t feel the need to include any Star Wars characters or appearances on Skeleton Crew. They said,

We were open to it. If anything, they [Lucasfilm] were like, ‘Yeah, if any opportunities come up, we’re totally open to that,’ but we were focused on making our story work. It was kind of a scenario where we got to the end of writing the first season, and we made it through without needing any cameos.

Watts further mentioned that he is much more interested in the idea of getting people to like the characters in Skeleton Crew without using Star Wars cameos as a crutch. He added that maybe in the future, seeing their characters as they grow up, they’d see how they would fit in the large galaxy of Star Wars.

Christopher Ford also shared his perspective on why they did not include any major cameos for the Skeleton Crew. He said,

When we’d look back and be like, ‘Could we stick one in?’ It would mess it up, so we didn’t. We built this little thing.

It can be rightly said that the creators felt that their show did not need any cameos, at least for season one. The creators felt that including cameos would have disrupted their carefully built story, and they wanted the audience to focus on the new characters.

ScreenRant noted that in the past, some of the Star Wars projects have relied upon cameos and big-name appearances, which eventually became the focus of the project. It is not something the creators wanted with Skeleton Crew.

Jon Watts talks about Season 2 of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

During an interview with Variety, the co-creators were asked if they are looking forward to having a season two of the show, to which Watts answered that they are optimistic about season 2. He added that one would never really know when they are working on something and then they send it out into the world about what people are going to think.

Watts mentioned that Star Wars fans are very vocal, as everyone knows, and they’ve got such a positive response from everyone about Skeleton Crew. The co-creator noted that they have a lot of stories to share with the audience, and they are hopeful that more and more people will be able to watch it.

Upon asking if they are willing to work on television again, apart from season two of Skeleton Crew, Watts noted that he’d love to work on television again. He went on to explain that he likes having the expanded format, and the idea of getting deeper into that kind of episodic storytelling is really exciting for him. The co-creator of the show mentioned that they have been talking about how season two should look. He added,

If the first season felt more like a miniseries kind of structure, now that we’ve met the characters, we spend time with them and explore their world in a slightly different narrative way.

Despite Star Wars: Skeleton Crew receiving positive comments from the critics, the show struggled with viewership. However, it was later reported that the series has been improving its numbers and can be considered a sleeper series. Whether it gets renewed for season two or not, is to be seen.
