- Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman share a genuine friendship behind their playful banter.
- Hugh Jackman's role in 'The Greatest Showman' has made him a hero in Reynolds' home.
- While Jackman charms Reynolds' children, Reynolds struggles to impress them with Deadpool.
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have become one of the most entertaining duos in the entertainment industry. They have managed to entertain fans with their banter and fake rivalry, but behind the scenes, they share a genuine friendship that goes beyond the public eye.
During the promotion of Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds has been sharing some interesting stories about his relationship with Jackman and especially how much his kids like him. These stories reveal a heartwarming side of their friendship and also show how Jackman is special to Reynolds’ family.
The Greatest Showman Steals Ryan Reynolds’ Kids’ Hearts
It looks like Jackman’s role in his Grammy-winning musical film has made him quite a hero in Reynolds’ house. And judging by Reynolds’ hilarious comments, it seems like he is perhaps a bit envious and worried about his own legacy in the eyes of his kids.
The Greatest Showman came out in 2017, where Hugh Jackman played the character named P.T. Barnum. The movie tells the story of Barnum’s life and how his famous circus was created, and it has become a favorite of Reynolds’ kids in a big way.
Talking about whether he could pull off Jackman’s role, Ryan Reynolds told during a London press conference for Deadpool & Wolverine that he guarantees he would play it badly. He said (via Instagram),
If I could do one movie from his filmography, it would definitely be The Greatest Showman. I’m not saying I’d do it well. I’m actually guaranteeing it wouldn’t go very well at all, but my kids are obsessed with it.
He further described the time when he once came home and found Jackman acting out scenes from The Greatest Showman with his kids in his living room. He said,
This is one of the most beautiful moments ever had with this guy (Hugh Jackman) right here. This guy is standing in front of the television while the movie is playing, acting out all of the movie with my kids. And I’m like, ‘you little bastards have no idea how good you have it right now. Like, you won’t appreciate this for 20 years.’
The bond between Reynolds’ kids and Jackman is not just limited to watching movies together. In an interview with Extra, Reynolds revealed that his daughter Betty attacked Jackman backstage with her imaginary Wolverine claws.
Such impromptu performances by Jackman have solidified his status as “Uncle Hugh” in the Reynolds family. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Reynolds complained humorously about his kids that “they don’t want daddy’s movies, but they love uncle Hugh’s movies.” However, he is just happy that he didn’t have to meet Jackman’s $112 million quote per film for his house performance.
Ryan Reynolds Couldn’t Impress His Kids With Deadpool
On one hand, Jackman is winning over Reynolds’ kids with his The Greatest Showman performance, but on the other hand, Reynolds himself is struggling to win them over with his most popular character ever.
In an interview with Today, Reynolds revealed that his kids know everything about Deadpool and they don’t like him at all. Moreover, Reynolds’ Deadpool suit has become a reason for unintentional scares for them. He said,
I ruined them with that because I have the original [Deadpool] suit…like a mold of my body downstairs in the basement. And it was just sort of silhouetted one night and one of my kids went down there, screamed bloody murder. I ran down there because I forgot it was down there and I screamed bloody murder. So, yeah, no, everybody’s pretty well damaged.
The contrasting reaction of Reynolds’ children to Jackman’s musical character and Reynolds’ superhero alter ego is quite funny. While Jackman has found a way into their hearts with his acting and singing, their own father’s character has unintentionally become a boogeyman.
The Greatest Showman is available to stream on Disney+.
Deadpool & Wolverine is running in theaters.
